And that is the week that was

It has been a busy week.
I have been cat sitting for some friends who merchanted at Gulf Wars. They have been gone since Saturday morning, and will be back by tomorrow evening.
It has been a challenging week. Getting up, feeding the 8 here (2 inside, 2 outside and the 4 kittens in the barn) and then the 20-25 minute drive up the mountain, turn right and keep on going...and THEN, drive on to work. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to do this and get to work. The drive is WAY out of the way, but, I know my Godcats are in good hands...until one disappeared on me.

His Mother is coming next week. Since there wouldn't be time to do any real cleaning between their coming home, they brought in a cleaning service they have used before. The youngest, a 7 month old Tuxedo with a huge fluffy tail was apparently traumitized and hid out for two days. He didn't even come out to eat!

I panicked, big time.

Finally, the next evening, he came out-after i went through the house, waving an open can of cat food under, over and through every possible kitty hidey hole in the house. Nothing like the smell of Mixed Grill to entice a Teenage Kitten out of hiding.

Don't get me wrong-they are a jy to take care of-even when the Elder cat decides to use the bath mat as a litterbox. (I don't know why-I cleaned out the boxes day and night. Those are very clean boxes!) math mat is now in the washroom sink, and the door to the bathroom is closed.

BUT! next year, we are all going to War, all my rawdy friends and I...I hope.

many of my friends have been active for 3 to 4 decades, and are getting worn out and bored. I finally found this Southern Version 10 years ago, and almost instantly felt a kinship. Here were people who didn't think I was strange for reading something other then the Sports Page or Gossip Rags! Here were people who read Real Books! Who don't see anything wrong with hand-stitched embroidery or a hand-sewn garment or learning a new skill. I guess I still see the excitement in it, not the duty. I still get excited attending Events, as few as they are these days. I think more on Who I will see, and who will be a new friend by the end of the day, rather then fret over responsibilities.

Sorry, guys-I still see the freshness, the beauty and the joy of the SCA. the possibilities are there for those who truly seek them. Yes, there is trouble. It is the nature of humans to play politics. That can and will cause conflict. Sometimes, it is a little hard to remember that...say, right about when someone breaks your heart.
The bad does not outweigh the good, though.

My memories of Gulf Wars past make me want to return. Listening and watching Tibor and Valizan giggle and talk over Port, into the night; a Horse in full Royal array, galloping majestic over the field, with an exuberant Asteorran King on board; children staring in wonder, listening to the Storyteller; feeling the beat of the drums coming up from the earth, into the soles of your feet, as you approach the Middle and Near Eastern encampments; Watching Valizan dance; the rush as you take the Field as your Queen's Chosen Champion; winning the first round of a tournament-against the Premier of the Bronze Ring in the Middle; attending classes taught by people who are the best in the Known World in their Fields; so many memories...and only memories. This is the last night of War, and I really do wish I was there.
This exile cannot last much longer...I hope.

Next year-Gulf Wars.
