Stargate Voyager 90210 Universe Casting

Feb 25, 2009 08:34

I, um. See some (more) potentially skeevy racial and gender issues coming up in the casting. (If you weren't already aware of my thoughts on those in the Gateverse, you might want to skip the post. I'm not particularly nice in my thoughts about the PTB these days.)

If you think casting info and character stuff is spoilery, don't click. )

a human resources executive with the international oversight committee that governs the Stargate program. Now the highest-ranking member of that division left stranded on the ship, she carries herself with a misguided sense of superiority over the other military and civilian survivors.

I think I'm already scared, for the reasons you mentioned. Also, it sounds too much like a "misguided" version of Elizabeth, which feels like a backstab to this EW fan.

Also, if they treat her character badly, I'm pretty sure I won't watch it... I like her way too much.

Why, yes, I was thinking something like that.

It just creeps me out. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'm certain I should skip it. (I don't know if you watched "Remnants" -- it's one of half decent S5 episodes - they had some IOA lady - I don't know what was her name; Asian, going to Atlantis and playing a really dirty game to overtake Woolsey's position. Damn it, why does it have to be a woman?! Asian, no less? Do these guys have some sort of racist issue?)

Long story short: Yes.

Second: OMG. I LOVE SHEN. Partly because I love anyone Tamlyn Tomita plays, but, also, I really enjoy the idea that Shen is Not Wrong, she just operates under a different value system, and is jockeying for power for a different country.

I mean, I'm sure I'd loathe the execution of Remnants, which is why I didn't even bother watching. It would be way more interesting if it had been Elizabeth and Shen in a political fight. But even then, I'd have to acknowledge the skeevy racial issues of the Gateverse PTB.

Execution was.... sad. I loved John - part, because John. (it could have been better!) I definitely didn't enjoy Woolsey - Shen part of it, and look how bad I am? I didn't even know her name. Bad me.

You're right, power play between Elizabeth and Shen would have been awesome. (and psst, if you're looking for a plot bunny... *runs away really fast*)

*snicker* You so identify with John, don't you? Not that I can talk. I get like that with other characters.

I <3 Shen like there's no tomorrow. But I'm trying to disentangle myself from the Gateverse! (I know I keep saying this, and then posting fic, but I really am trying!)

I definitely identify with him. Guilty as charged. But I do love them all ;)

Yeah, yeah.... I believe you (not). Stick to your fics, because they're wonderful, and ignore the stupid. Not everything was bad about 'Gateverse; if it was, disentangling from it wouldn't be this hard.

*huggles*

"If"? Oh man, I wish I had as much faith as you do. I honestly can't imagine them not treating her badly, right from the outset.

It really sucks that I'm not alone in thinking that.

Well, that's me the positive one ;) But you're totally right.
