Femslash Challenge Comm (aka I Love The Poll Function)

May 01, 2007 11:27

So remember when I asked if there was room for a femslash multifandom challenge comm? And then when I took a poll over it?

I am still going to do it! But I was waiting until April was done. I had a lot to do in April. So I need to decide on a name, and then medie, who rocks beyond the telling of it, offered to make me a comm header. (She knows ( Read more... )

I guess vaginapalooza wouldn't be poetic enough, eh? :P

*snicker* Damn fun name, though. But I was trying to keep it as something I wouldn't be afraid to load on my work computer!

are there any explanations/tag lines to go with any of the options?

I could conceivably go and, um, pull the lines of poetry that inspired potential comm titles.

That would be, like, sensible. Which I can occasionally be!

I've edited the post now, but so you don't have to necessarily go back and check, here's the text I've edited the post with:

Okay! It's been asked where I get the potential comm names from (very sensible idea; wish I'd thought of it), and so here are the explanations. Yes, they're all from bits of Sappho's poetry, partly because the first prompt exchange challenge I participated in involved that, partly because it's femslash, and partly because I'm a sucker for poetry as inspiration.

daring_fate - I'm in love with writings on the Trojan war, so of course I had to read the poetry Sappho wrote about it. So. It's the Trojan war. Fate and love and don't-you-dare-defy-the-gods all gets mixed in there. One of the lines is "forced by her passion, dared Fate in exile." Well. So the symbolism is two-fold here: not only is femslash is generally off on the sidelines of fandom, but I love the idea of daring Fate, or working to counteract it, especially given the inexorable nature of Fate in Greek mythology ( ... )

I did not think of it as a soccer team name 'til you mentioned it. But...pretty amusing! *snerk*

I did because we have the DC United here, so...

Although given the comm's purpose, it also strangely made me think of "Bend it like Beckham".

Yes, I'm random. Why do you ask?

Ooooh. I r SMRT today! I thought they were Sapphic fragments, it was tugging at my brain which one the one I chose came from - if that makes any sense, I'm in no state to be grammatically correct this precise minute - because it seemed so very familiar. Yay!

TBH, I think "muses_garden", with the fact that a lot of us who write fiction, fanfiction or poetry refer to our muses rather often, might be - crap, what word am I trying to get out of my brain here - might be... well, let's go for "assumed", more readily to be just a general fanfic community than a specific femmeslash comm.

*snicker* It's not like they're very clearly defined when they're out of context. And point on the muses_garden name.

I like them all... And will still help with the website. We can do affiliations, yes?

Thank you! You have no idea what a load off me that is! And yes, affiliations would be great!
