So remember
when I asked if there was room for a femslash multifandom challenge comm? And then when I
took a poll over it?
I am still going to do it! But I was waiting until April was done. I had a lot to do in April. So I need to decide on a name, and then
medie, who rocks beyond the telling of it, offered to make me a comm header. (She knows that my Photoshop skills are minimal, you see.)
So! I would appreciate it if you'd all tell me which vaguely poetic-sounding comm name you prefer.
Poll Help me decide on a femslash challenge comm name ETA: Okay! It's been asked where I get the potential comm names from (very sensible idea; wish I'd thought of it), and so here are the explanations. Yes, they're all from bits of Sappho's poetry, partly because the first prompt exchange challenge I participated in involved that, partly because it's femslash, and partly because I'm a sucker for poetry as inspiration.
daring_fate - I'm in love with writings on the Trojan war, so of course I had to read the
poetry Sappho wrote about it. So. It's the Trojan war. Fate and love and don't-you-dare-defy-the-gods all gets mixed in there. One of the lines is "forced by her passion, dared Fate in exile." Well. So the symbolism is two-fold here: not only is femslash is generally off on the sidelines of fandom, but I love the idea of daring Fate, or working to counteract it, especially given the inexorable nature of Fate in Greek mythology.
innumerablehues - Sort of a combination of ideas. I'd first seen the line "on the throne of many hues" from
Hymm to Aphrodite by Sappho about Aphrodite, and couldn't figure out how to get that into a comm name. Then I saw
this fragment, which says only "shot with innumerable hues," and I thought it would fit well for a multifandom comm.
muses_garden - When I was trolling through Sappho's poetry fragments, there was
a line she'd written about a garden of the nymphs, and I sort of co-opted that for the idea of a muse's garden. I thought it fit with the idea of a prompt challenge comm.
unveiled_eyes - This is from a
fragment which is supposedly Sappho addressing a man, but as far as the webpage is concerned, no one specific is meant. And the line I pulled from is "and unveil for me in thine eyes, their grace." To me, it means the idea of looking at someone and seeing their true self, and then seeing your true self reflected therein. So it's about clear sight, in a way, which I just have always liked as a fic theme.
