Dream 001

Warnings: Spoilers for Battlestar Galactica 4.08 'Faith'
Notes: Kara's possession is a casette player and throughout the dream this song is playing in the background.

[The dream starts showing nothing but black but the voices of Kara Thrace and Lee Adama can be heard amidst bursts of static.

"Starbuck, you're getting too low! You come back!"
"Just let me go. They're waiting for me."

And then there's a violent explosion as Starbuck's Viper heads down into the orbit of the gas giant as Lee continues to yell.

The scene shifts. Kara shoots past Lee Adama before pulling up alongside, her Viper pristine and unmarked.

"Hi, Lee."
"Kara?"
"I've been to Earth Lee. I know where it is. And I'm gonna take us there."
"No. No, no. This is frakking crazy! I saw your ship blow up!"
It's evident that Kara's confused when she replies. "'Fraid not. Did you not hear me? I've been to Earth."
"Earth."
"...Big blue oceans, fluffy white clouds. You're gonna love it. I promise."

Again, there's a shift in the scene to Kara on Galactica's flight deck, Sam behind her and she's smiling because she's back, she's home with her family and she's been to Earth, the place they've been searching for. She's found it. But the Old Man isn't smiling. There are Marines in her face and suddenly they're saying that she's been gone two months. That they thought she was dead.

There are a few flashes. A medical examination. Kara and the Old Man and Laura Roslin in his office. Kara is angry, going through her story again. Explaining what she saw, that she can't explain the time discrepancy.

Another shift and Kara is shaking.

"We're going the wrong way."

No one listens and then she's in the memorial hallway with Sam, staring at her photo still there with the others they've lost.

"No one took it down. Not the old man, not Lee. Not even you, Sam."
"You just got back, Kara. We're all still trying to get a handle on this. You know, you gotta cut people some slack. Cut yourself some too."
"When I woke up orbiting Earth, I just figured it was some crazy dream, but... I went in following a heavy Raider. I mean, maybe the Cylons pulled me out of the soup, captured me, brainwashed me. On Caprica, in the experiment on me. I mean, did they take pieces of me? I mean, is it possible that they grew me -- another me -- in a Petri dish, and they embedded me with the memories, or it with the memories, or... "
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, hey, no. Kara, no. Listen to me. If you were a Cylon, then you've been one from the beginning."
"Like Boomer. Spend my entire life thinking I'm one thing..."
"Yeah, and then you wake up one day and discover you're another. Still doesn't change who you really are. Still doesn't change the fact that I love you no matter what."
"You are a better person than I am, Sam, because if I found out that you were a Cylon, I would put a bullet between your eyes."

The PA comes on, Dualla's voice ringing out to let everyone know they're jumping and Kara wobbles. She tells Sam she has to get to Roslin, Sam attempts to talk her out of it but she attacks the Marines who have been watching her and then she knocks Sam out with the gun and heads for Roslin, pointing the gun at her.

Kara is then in the brig with the Old Man, him furious, her sobbing.

"What were you doing? What were you thinking? What happened to you?!"
"I saw Earth. The shape of it, the smell of it. The feel of it on my skin in my pores. And I swear to you, it was like I'd been there before. Like I never left."
"You're too stupid to figure out you just screwed over the one ally you had. You didn't have the guts to hold on. Tell me. Who's gonna help you?"
"Yeah, frak me, huh? It sure as hell isn't gonna be you. You've gotta remind yourself that you're somebody else. You're the president's wet nurse. You're the one who doesn't have the guts."

Adama chokes her, dropping her to the floor.

"Nice to know you still care, Admiral." She starts sobbing and laughing hysterically before she screams, "We're going the wrong way!"

Next it's Lee visiting her and the dream only shows Kara, smiling sadly.

"So say we all."
"So say we all."
Kara holds out a hand to him. "Good luck on your journey, Lee Adama."
"You too, Kara Thrace."
She doesn't let go of his hand. "Okay."
Lee clasps her hand tight. "All right."
"Lee?" She watches him turn to go but then he's back, kissing her before he finally whispers.

"I believe you."

On Galactica's hangar deck, Kara stands with the Old Man.

"So... you quietly cut me loose in deep space. I'm not afraid to die."
"Little easier after you've been through it once."
"Harder. Especially now that I'm seeing things so clearly. You're making a mistake."
"Maybe I am. But I can't take the chance that you're right and not do something about it." Then her cuffs are unlocked and it's just her, the Old Man and Helo. "Helo hand-picked a crew for you. I'm giving you a ship. I hope you can stand the smell."
This time Helo speaks. "Liberated the Demetrius. It's a sewage recycling ship. The party line will be that we're going for a scouting mission. Looking for food."
Kara looks from Helo to the Old Man. "So you think I'm right."
"Maybe. Maybe not. But I know she is. The President. She's been right all along. I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of turning away from the things that I want to believe in. And I believe you when you say that you'll die before you stop trying. And I won't lose you again. Now go. Find a way to Earth."

Kara nods, almost starts crying and then puts her arms around the Old Man and they hold each other for a while.

Then it’s the Demetrius, a horrible cramped thing and Kara is painting what she sees in her dreams and pouring over starcharts, changing course and she listens to a conversation about how they think she’s a Cylon. Eventually Sam tries to talk to her.

“ You know, some of us actually volunteered for this mission.”
“‘Some’ meaning you. Because that's what this is about, Sam. You know what the deal is, with us, with our marriage? It didn't make much sense to begin with. Makes even less now.”
“ I don't buy that. I don't think you believe a single, frakking word you're saying. You're just scared. You see that, mhh? You see this?” He shows her his tattoo, the one that matches hers, tattoos that create a unified circle with wings with the symbol for Caprica also easily seen. “Remember those? You remember when we got 'em? That's what's real, ok. That's part of who we are. That is a part of what you are, whether you will admit it or not.”
“ Dumb motherfrakker. I only married you because it was safe and it was easy, Sam. And you were just pathetic enough to go along with it. So get the frak out!” She shoves him out. “Sam, get out! Get out! Leave, come on! Get out!” Anders takes her by the arms and holds her. They are almost kissing. “ I don't want to fight, Sam. I wanna frak. You don't get it, do you? I'm not the same girl you married. All I wanna do right now is frak. Really frak, like it's the end of the world and nothing else matters. So come on, Sam, make me feel something. I dare you.
Anders shoves her away, then gives her a second shove onto the bunk bed.

Later, she’s in a Viper, flying and she spots a Heavy Raider.

“Son of a bitch I knew it.” She seemingly ignores most of what Helo and Hotdog are saying. “Come on. Talk to me, shoot me, do something.”
Over the wireless comes a voice Kara knows all too well. “Kara. I'm alone. It's not an attack. I knew I'd find you. Knew you'd be out here searching...”
“Leoben?”
“I'm here for you, to offer a truce between Cylon and human. And a chance for you to complete your journey."

Aboard the Demetrius, Kara and Leoben talk, Kara glaring when he smiles at her.

“Don’t look at me like that.”
“I'm sorry. The difference between the way you were on New Caprica and now...”

The scene shifts again, this time to the interior of a Cylon baseship as they all stare together at the hybrid

“You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end."]

[Kara jerks awake on her couch, throwing herself into a sitting position as she holds her head in her hands, gasping and shaking. It takes some time for her to pull herself together, quietly praying to the Lords of Kobol until she gets her breath back and instead of touching her Dreamberry, she gets up to grab the casette player, hitting repeat. Anyone who has seen the inside of her apartment before via the Dreamberry will see that there is a large mandala painted on her wall.]

[[ooc: Oh god that was long. This is her dealing with her canon update. Part of it. She'll be having another dream soon dealing with other parts.]]

they all think she's crazy, welcome to her frakked up life, !dream, the destiny, harbinger of death, frakking toasters
