Thoughts on the new New Doctor Who episodes that have aired recently, 5x01 and 5x02:
-The 11th Doctor is very...witty. I'm sure if I went back and watched the pilots for each series starting with 2005's Series 1 I would think the same thing of the 9th and 10th Doctors. They always start out with a whimsical appeal, very comical almost, and then further throughout the series they grow more serious as their adventures become more troubling and critical.
-Matt Smith has an unusually attractive head. It seems at some camera angles pieces of his head look awkward, like his eyes appear shallow, or his jaw overly juts out. Put the whole image of his head together and it's not so bad. I guess casting did well when they wanted someone to play an attractive character for future fans of the show, but to also give him that Time Lord-y quality.
-The relationship between 11 and Amy Pond is adorable. Even though she's 19, he treats her like the girl he first met. They exchange good lines between one another, fire witty comments like a married couple already, but overall, I'm digging the new pair. A lot. Especially Karen Gillian.
-After watching 5x02, I feel Amy earned her place as companion with 11. Now I'm just waiting for the epicness of 11 to stand out like 10. It's bad that I keep constantly comparing 11 with 9 and 10, because 11 doesn't have anyone to act like himself around. He has no one to stay the same for, so that explains (maybe) his change in character from the unforgiving-to-humanized Time Lord. I'm disappointed that everything the Doctor had learned and gained as an individual from the past 4 series is all gone now because of the new cast and crew. There should at least be reminisces of his past besides him musing about him being the last Time Lord and traveling alone, but I guess I have to wait to see if any of that pops up in later episodes. It would've been nicer to see that early on so fans can have a Doctor to relate to the past series, and feel that their beloved 9th and 10th Doctors still resided in Matt Smith's body. C'mon Steve Moffatt, don't let us down.
All in all, I'm pleased with the recent episodes, though I'm still holding my breath. I'm waiting to revisit certain memories from the Doctor, and I honestly can't get enough of Amy Pond and her possibilities as a companion. There needs to be more involvement from her. 5x02 seemed too short and compressed, so I guess that's why I'm striving for more of 11 and Amy already.
Uhm. Bed? Yes. Geronimo!
