Chapter 2
When Jaejoong woke up, it was totally dark outside and the clock on his nightstand said he had slept through the whole day. The wounds didn't hurt anymore and Jaejoong sat up in bed, feeling strangely energetic and full of life. If Yunho truly was a vampire, he wasn't going to be out when the sun is up and trying to find him at night when there weren't so many people around, would be a bit easier that trying to do that at daytime. Wondering if Yunho would be around the same place where Jaejoong had run into him yesterday, Jaejoong decided to go back there.
It wasn't a lot but it was a start, the part of the city was always full of life and plenty of drunken people to feast on. Jaejoong wondered which parts of the vampire legends were true. Did Yunho sleep in a coffin? Did he loathe garlic and turn into a bat? Just the thought of it made Jaejoong laugh a little, when he'd meet the other man again, Jaejoong would ask him about that. He was certain he would find Yunho eventually. It was just a gut feeling, but Jaejoong wanted to believe it.
He put on a thick jacket and a scarf to hide the wounds in his neck, his skin had turned purple from around where Yunho had bit him but Jaejoong didn't have time to think about that. Maybe Yunho would even come to him if Jaejoong was about to die. It felt like he had a piece of Yunho with him, the other man hadn't definitely known Jaejoong would come out of it alive.
He caught the sight of his reflection from one of the shop windows, Jaejoong had always been pale but he was even whiter now, his skin shiny and clammy looking from the cold shivers still wrecking through his body. His eyes were pitch back, his lips deep red and his hair was messed up from staying in bed all day. Jaejoong couldn't bring himself to care as his feet guided him forward. It was the feeling of Yunho that made him walk places he never had visited before. Without finding the other man, Jaejoong got back home but didn't feel disappointed.
The feeling was getting stronger, Yunho was somewhere not so far from him. Jaejoong knew everything about it was crazy, but the sensations in his body told him it was true. It was like some greater power had taken a hold of him and Jaejoong couldn't help it. He just had to go where his heart told him everyday and he knew, he was following so close after Yunho's steps. So close he could almost taste it, before losing track of the other man and going home again. The wound hadn't healed, but it wasn't getting worse either and Jaejoong wondered if that had something to do with Yunho.
He wasn't feeling like he used to feel at all, Jaejoong didn't care about other people because now, his life had a new meaning. Feeling stupid about not getting it before, Jaejoong slept all day and walked around all night, desperately trying to find peace and the cure for the coldness still eating at his insides.
Jaejoong looked for the other man for a few days, following the feeling deep inside of him, before he finally found Yunho again. The man was standing in a busy intersection, he was wearing a suit and there were people all around them, hurrying to cross the street but when their eyes met, the both of them stopped. It was like time had frozen though it actually was only for a few seconds before Yunho turned away, hurrying to get further away from the other man but Jaejoong followed him.
Yunho entered a small coffee shop after a few minutes and sat down in one of the booths, Jaejoong's heart beating faster when he took a seat opposite the other man.
"Why are you following me?" Yunho said, his voice not giving away any emotions but his eyes were full of curiosity, so deep Jaejoong wanted to drown in them.
"I want answers," Jaejoong said, surprised about how calm his voice sounded, "Who... What are you?"
"You know what I am," Yunho grinned and took out his cigarettes, Jaejoong saw the pointed fangs peeking out from between the other man's lips, "You've been following me for days."
"You're a vampire," Jaejoong whispered, not able to take his eyes off the handsome man, "I want to know what's happening to me. Am I turning into a vampire too?"
"No," Yunho chuckled, putting a cigarette between his lips and lighting it, "You just have the virus and it's killing you, slowly but surely."
"Why didn't you kill me?" Jaejoong said, not caring that Yunho had just told him he was going to die sooner or later.
"Because you knew my God damn name," Yunho gritted his teeth, looking really dangerous to Jaejoong, "How in the world did you know it or were you just guessing? You were supposed to die there anyway, I never knew you'd make it out alive..."
"It just came to me," Jaejoong told the truth, "I've been following you because my heart told me to do so."
"Bullshit," Yunho cursed, not looking at the other man while smoking his cigarette.
"How else would I know where you are? It's like... I have a piece of you inside me and it's helping me find you," Jaejoong tried to reason, "I feel like I know your every step, Jung Yunho."
"The virus is just messing with your head," Yunho mumbled before realizing what Jaejoong had said, "You know my last name too? Damn, you've done your research. Are you a cop? You know you can't arrest me, you don't have any proof."
"The virus isn't messing with me, it's barely even affecting me!" Jaejoong almost shouted at the other man, "I feel more alive than ever, look!"
Jaejoong took off his scarf to show the wound in his neck to Yunho. His neck was still purple and ugly but the wound hadn't gotten worse, the marks from Yunho's sharp teeth were still visible. Yunho's eyes widened a little, Jaejoong tried to fight back a shudder when Yunho's eyes met his and then, Yunho was suddenly sitting next to him, breath ghosting Jaejoong's neck. Yunho touched his skin gently, examining the bruised skin with a serious look on his handsome face, Jaejoong's breathing got so much faster.
"Amazing," Yunho whispered, long fingers caressing Jaejoong's skin, "Do you know what this means?"
"Please tell me," Jaejoong said quietly, trying his best to keep his voice even but it came out with a higher tone than usual. Yunho's scent was hypnotizing, Jaejoong had never smelled anything like that. The odour reminded Jaejoong of a summer night, hot, dark and difficult to breathe in.
"I can drink from you as much as I want to," Yunho grinned, leaning in closer, "And you won't die."
"I-is that a good thing?" Jaejoong whimpered, the urge to to grab Yunho by the collar of his shirt to smash their lips together was affecting him again. The cold feeling was gone, instead Jaejoong felt hot and bothered, his eyelashes fluttering when Yunho leaned in even closer.
"I've heard of people like you existing but I thought they were all lies," Yunho explained, his lips were now almost touching Jaejoong's already abused neck, "When I tell everyone I've found one, they're not going to believe me..."
"Everyone?"
"You thought I was the only vampire in this city?" Yunho chuckled, pressing a gentle kiss to the pale skin of Jaejoong's neck. Jaejoong moaned. The people in the cafe didn't seem to notice them.
"There are lots of us living here amongst you, there's plenty of food for all of us here. I'm not going to share you with them though, I'm going to feed from you until you tell me the truth about knowing my name. And if you die, it just proves that there are no people like that after all..."
"No," Jaejoong muttered weakly, trying to push Yunho away but his arms wouldn't listen, "I'm not your plaything!"
"Serves you right, who told you to come after me? Stupid human," Yunho laughed again, pulling Jaejoong closer by the waist and then there were teeth on his neck again, sinking to the tender flesh Yunho already had bit once. It hurt like a bitch, but the euforic feeling was slowly spreading to his limbs again and Jaejoong found his arms wrapping around the neck of his abuser, pulling him closer to present his neck at Yunho.
"Oh my God," Jaejoong breathed in, then biting his tongue to prevent the noises from escaping his lips, it felt so good, almost too good... Yunho was so strong, his grip of Jaejoong's waist and neck almost painful, but Jaejoong felt amazing. Yunho sucked harder when Jaejoong moaned, he felt dizzy again and probably wouldn't make it this time - strangely, he didn't care.
"Oh," Jaejoong moaned again, his hands finding their way to Yunho's hair, trying to pull him away from his neck, "Yunho, stop it..."
To Jaejoong's surprise, Yunho actually did pull back to look into the raven's eyes.
"Fucking hell, do you like this?" Yunho asked, one eyebrow raised at the gasping man he was holding, "I don't believe it."
"I don't," Jaejoong lied while trying to catch his breath, his eyes lingering on Yunho's lips, shiny with his crimson blood. How he wanted to kiss him, to take off his clothes and... Jaejoong tried to force the thoughts out of his head. How in the world could he be thinking about sex in a situation like this?
"You're hard," Yunho noticed, "You're coming with me."
"I'll come if you kiss me," Jaejoong smiled, wincing from the pain when his neck gradually started to ache again. What use would it be to go back home anyway? Jaejoong bet his life would be a lot more interesting with the vampire. Maybe he would make Jaejoong one too.
"Kiss you?" Yunho suddenly smiled as well, Jaejoong didn't know if it was to mock him, "You only want a kiss from me?"
"Yes," Jaejoong nodded, parting his lips in anticipation.
"You'll get that, now come on," Yunho stood up, pulling Jaejoong up with him from the back of his shirt. Jaejoong's legs wouldn't carry him and he had to grab onto Yunho, the taller man wrapped an arm around his waist and supported him as they walked out of the small cafe. The air felt thick around them, it was the end of spring and the beginning of summer, they would only have a few hours before the sun came up.
"It's two hours to sunrise," Yunho told him, like he had read Jaejoong's mind and walked faster, suddenly turning left to enter a skyscraper building.
"We can't go here, there must be security cameras around!" Jaejoong gasped, dragging his feet and trying to keep up with the other man. But Yunho didn't listen, they walked across the hall and stepped inside the elevator, Yunho pressed a button and the lift went up numerous amount of floors. When they reached the top floor, Jaejoong begun to worry. Was Yunho going to push him off the edge, an easy way to disguise a murder as a suicide?
Helping Jaejoong up the final stairs, Yunho opened a door to the roof of the building. The sky was clear, the moon shining brightly above them and Jaejong breathed in, it was so beautiful. The cityscape was all around them, bright lights of the city making everything shine in vivid colors. Yunho took him all the way to edge, only a short steel fence separating him from falling into the neon colors under them, and stood behind him, wrapping his arms around the smaller man.
"Do you want to die Jaejoong-ah?" Yunho asked but his voice was gentle, Jaejoong knew he wasn't going to kill him.
"I don't care," Jaejoong said honestly, feeling wonderful wrapped in Yunho's icy embrace, "But my heart feels so warm around you, it's so full of life and certainly doesn't want to die."
"Are you sure? It would be so easy," Yunho sighed, sounding a bit sad, "You could jump right now. I could help you climb up, even push you down if you hesitated. Sometimes I wonder, what is it like?"
"Do you mean death?" Jaejoong asked quietly, feeling so close to the other man his heart was about to jump out of his ribcage.
"I know nothing of it. Would it be painless? Comfortable? It has to be easier than this."
"Don't say that," Jaejoong exhaled, turning around in Yunho's arms and reaching up to his face, "You made me feel alive again."
When Jaejoong pulled their lips to meet each other, something sprung free in Yunho's chest. A feeling he had locked up deep inside of him, forgotten about and lost the key.
