RP: Meeting Chris's parents

Apr 25, 2010 20:14

Jack was lagging behind on his way to the airport. He did not, did not, want to meet Chris's parents! But he was being dragged along incase she needed the bathroom again so he gritted his teeth and pretended he was fighting all the Baal's created with a toothbrush.

"Don't be such a slow poke, Jack."

In contrast to her partner's definite downer mood, Christine was more on the bouncy side of things. It had been far too long since she'd seen her parents.

He groaned and hurried up a little so he was walking beside her. "Why do I have to be here again?"

"Because you got me knocked up and then invited them to the shotgun wedding," she informed him, cheerfully.

"Right." He sighed again. "Can we call it a zat gun wedding considering my old job?"

"That works, but if anyone actually gets shot, I will not be impressed." Finding the baggage carousel where she was supposed to wait, Christine plopped herself on a nearby bench to wait.

"Right. Got it." He sat down beside her, checking his watch. Two minutes left before his slow crucifixion.

She picked a song to hum while she waited. It was almost scarily upbeat. Considering the conversations she had on the horizon -- 'you're pregnant out of wedlock by a man older than us', just to name one of many -- she had a youthful sort of optimism about seeing her parents. Because then, everything would be right with the world.

Jack just decided to sit there and think of a list of regrets that had nothing to do with Chris while he waited. One minute to go.

A crowd of people arrived, supposedly the plane from New Orleans. Christine stood, watching for her father's tall, familiar form.

Jack stayed sitting, waiting to meet the parents. He wouldn't have been much help not knowing what they looked like.

As soon as she spotted them, Christine was her university-aged self, again, thrilled to have them visiting, practically bouncing over to greet them. "Mom, Daddy! I've missed you!" She exclaimed, hugging and kissing them both in turn, while the sentiments were returned. That over, Lauren gave her daughter an appraising look, and then simply laughed and gave her another hug.

Jack stood out of politeness and waited for Chris to greet her parents and introduce him.

"Alright, where is he?" And that, from Pat, was what made Christine remember the purpose of the reunion. She'd forgotten for a moment there.

"I left him over here," she said, taking her mother's carryon bag over her shoulder and ignoring the protest that came with it as she led her parents over to her fiance. "Mom, Dad, this is Jack O'Neill. Jack, Lauren and Patterson Chapel."

"Hi." He gave a polite smile before trying to elaborate. "It's nice to meet you, finally." He moved over to try and take the bag from his pregnant fiancee but fails.

Lauren, with a smile ever as polite and bright as her daughter's, nodded. "Nice to meet you, too, Jack. Christine speaks very highly of you."

There was a silence. Christine hummed, then dropped her mother's bag on the bench. "C'mon, Dad, let's go get your bags while we let this two get to know each other."

"Should you be lifting bags in your state?" Pat asked, arching his eyebrows at his daughter. So far, so good on the not grilling Jack front.

Christine, of course, arched her eyebrows right back. "I'm pregnant, not crippled."

Jack watched Chris and her dad leave and smiled at her mother. "Thanks. I've hear nothing but good things about you either."

He hoped their whole stay wasn't going to be so awkward.
