This is inspired by something I saw in the Disney/Lion King fandom, but it applies to pretty much anything.

As I've previously said, just because someone likes and/or sympathizes with villains (even ones you might find despicable) and thinks a hero might be a little less than pure and good does NOT automatically make them a 'Pantser. And it definitely does NOT make it okay to both assume the only reason the person feels that way is because they were an abused child and that it somehow invalidates their opinion. Even if that is the case, I think being abused it a pretty good reason to relate to a character villain or not (at least it's not just liking a character for being attractive). You do NOT fucking treat that kind of shit as a strawman to bash and degrade someone's different opinions. That kind of behavior is shitty anyway, but when you bring very personal and potentially very hurtful shit like abuse into the mix that takes it to a far greater level of shittiness.

Y'know, TVtropes says Scar has 'Pantsers and they're terrible, but to be honest from what I've seen just suggesting he's anything but pure evil and Mufasa and Simba are anything but just and holy brings out a viciousness I've never seen 'Pantsers fully match. Even Char Aznable's whitewashers have yet to use being abused as a way to demean someone. Yuck.

villains, the lion king, disney, fanbutt hypocrisy alert!, rants
