So yeah, I was going through tumblr and checking on stuff, and I got to
thius Hinata defense. Ar first sight it's a nice one, dedicated to dispell the fanon about her, and seems to be pretty genuine.
And then I read it again... and after a second reading, I was REALLY uncomfortable.
(
Slutshaming and bashing ahoy! Spoilers. )
Also, I've never understood the whole thing with bashing other characters/pairings to make their favorites look good. Are those really the only arguments you have in favor of what you like?
There are better ways to defend Hinata. Soap box time! Back when I cared more about the Naruto fandom NaruSaku became my be-all, end-all OTP, along with GaaLee and ShikaTema. That's never had any affect on my feelings toward Hinata whatsoever. Rewind to the the series pre-Shippuuden. My initial thoughts were that she was adorable, and she tried hard, which is really no different from Naruto himself, or Rock Lee. She looked up to Naruto and used her feelings for him to try and make herself a better person. I don't see this as a weakness, personally. A lot of people do need people (I could argue that that's the basic premise of Naruto, even), but Hinata doesn't force herself on him. She supports him when she can, and he inspires her to be a better ninja overall. Sounds more like an indirect form of teamwork than "dependency" or "stalking" to me.
See, fandom? Aside from a short disclaimer up mentioning my OTPs, I didn't even have to bring up any of the other females in Naruto, let alone bash them. I probably could have gone on for more paragraphs, illustrating my points with quotes and examples from the show, but I'm not really in much of a Naruto mood at the moment, so I won't. Point is, if you don't like Sakura, Tsunade, or whoever, why is it so fucking hard to just ignore them? Also, slutshaming is being a jerk toward real people, too, which is a lot less cool than just bashing characters. Just sayin'.
I just get damned sick of all this pointless shit. Is it so hard to defend a character without bashing others? Is it so hard to like a character and not let shipping preferences get in the way of that? I don't understand, but maybe that's just me.
Also, I can't help but wonder if some slutshamers that go "eww, boobs" cheer when an attractive male character walks around shirtless, but that's a double-standards argument.
