Uh... thanks for the backhanded compliment?
So several years ago, I wrote a big defense of one of my favorite Prince of Tennis characters: Sakuno Ryuzaki. I had forgotten about it, but then I got an anon comment on it. So I read it... then re-read it...
I've read all the other comments but I disagree with what the other people say. I still don't like Sakuno, I've never liked her. I find her so annoying and she gets in the way me paying attention to Ryoma. It's not like I know her personally but if I did I wouldn't like her. It's the way she's shy and doesn't express herself which makes me not like her. I also think that Ryoma doesn't really think she is his friend, he always has a puzzled look while she's around so he probably wondering why she's here, plus he found it annoying to have to tutor her in tennis. But he isn't experienced with girls so he obviously doesn't get why she acts the way she does but Ryoma doesn't have any interest in girls like her so she should just give up.
- She gets in the way of YOU paying attention to Ryoma? How so? She isn't exactly a big and important character, how can she get in the way?
- I take the "she's shy and doesn't express herself" one borderline personally. Guess what, I'm very shy on real life, and that's NOT a sin. Some people are simply not good with others, and that doesn't make them bad persons.
- Uhm, no? Ryoma doesn't think of her as a friend? He ate the food she made him in the anime. He defied a whole tennis team when they bullied her, which actually came after he was "oh so annoyed" with him tutoring her and Tomoka in tennis. (He was more annoyed by, you know, Nanjirou getting him out of bed in a weekend and tricking him into coaching the girls, rather than by Sakuno as a person.) He doesn't hate to have her hanging around him, he actually doesn't seem to mind a lot. He gives the puzzled look to, umn, very much EVERYONE outside the team? And sometimes even to his own teammates? Ryoma isn't good with people, but him giving her a puzzled look doesn't mean he hates her or doesn't care about her at all. (Also? His profile says he likes girls with long braids, and Sakuno has them. What does it say about him? :D )
- Why should she just give up? She doesn't HAVE to do it just because you and other fans want her to. She's free to do as she pleases, and not to mention it was Ryoma who got her interested in tennis to start with. She's a nice girl and doesn't deserve to be hated just for having a child-like crush on him.
That rant was written as a Sakuno defense, considering the unjustified and idiotic (and sometimes very misogynistic) bashing against her. You coming to say you liked it and then bashing Sakuno all over completely defeats the point. Overall, yeah, I'm not pleased.
