I personally feel that the word Mary Sue is being thrown around way to often. It's one thing to call a self insertion character in fanfiction a Mary sue, but to call just about EVERY lead female character in a story a Mary sue, now that's just going to far

Riku is well-liked among the other kids on his island, he is the boy who beats everyone on the island and he has dark powers. And he makes sacrifices for his friends. Gary Stu!
Yuki Sohma is hot and he's one of the most popular boys in school. He's also kind and has a tragic past. Gary Stu!
No, I don't think that either of these characters are Gary Stus. I'm just using them as examples because I bet that if they were female then they'd be called Mary Sues.

Harry Potter- Boy that saved the wizarding world when he was only a baby, has a tragic past, very powerful wizard. ZOMG Gary Stu!
Cloud Strife- Tragic past, Good looking, very powerful warrior, has two (possibly more) girls that like him- Gary Stu!
Heero Yui- Cold hearted, has a tragic past, a girl likes him, called a first class soldier- Gary Stu!

(I know, that statement sounds like it makes no sense, but this is YST were talking about).
Yes. She's mean. She's vendictive. She's manipulates. She's a villian, for cryin' out loud. And yet, fans love calling her a Mary Sue because "she's a bitch for using her super-powers to blow up the world and kill the Troopers".
Girl trying to kill your favorite, male character =/= Mary Sue.
Yep, people are defentaly getting to trigger-happy with the word Sue.

...Wha--? I generally thought Mary-Sues were perfect, what gives? Perfect characters get jealous now? It's people like that that would probably cause others to write off critics of Mary-Sues (like myself) as people who just toss the label onto canon characters they don't like. Hmph.
