oh, House fandom.

Now I remember why I love the show but refuse to associate with the fandom.

In other words, I just wandered onto the House section of Television Without Pity, and I can't go through four episodes before the Cameron-bashing in the recaps gets insufferable.

What do people want from Cameron? Yes, I know she has annoying fans who believe her to be some kind of angel sent to save House from himself or some similar idiocy. Everyone's got annoying fans sometimes. Whatever. Yes, she has Issues and is frequently annoying because of them. Guess what? The same goes for every character in the show. It's a show about messed-up people. If Cameron was the Perfect Strong Woman that fandom seems to demand all female characters must be (and them bash them as Sues when they are), she'd be utterly out of place on the show.

House is a self-important bastard anti-hero with a need to solve the world, no matter who he takes down with him, because he can't deal with himself. Wilson is more nice than he is good; he lives off of other people's need. Foreman is arrogant and grimly self-centered. Chase is an insecure suck-up with authority issues and an overwhelming desire to please (but he's a hot male, so that's okay, teehee!). Cameron is constantly struggling to connect with people on a level she can't quite reach and going about it in all the wrong ways.

They've all got issues. That's the point of the show. It's why I love it. Damaged characters are my raison d'etre of fannish existence.

But the vast majority of the bashing? Goes to Cameron. She's the fandom whipping girl. And it gets old fast. Is it because her issues are stereotypically "feminine"? Which makes me wonder how much bashing Wilson would get if he were a female character, since while his initial setup as the cheating-husband-but-loyal-friend is stereotypically masculine, his addiction to emotional need is a more classically "feminine" issue.

But that's a tangent. Suffice it to say that I'm really glad I stay out of House fandom.
