Rival in love doesn't equal an enemy...

I sometimes peak around the certain communities and I have noticed this disturbing trend where two rivals in a love triangle are written as bitter enemies when in the cannon they are not. This can turn into full on bashing.

This has been bugging me due to a recent jaunt into the Escaflowne fandom...

I found more then a few Van/Hitomi fics where Van absolutely hated Allen. This pissed me off, because that is not their relationship at all.

Van respects Allen as a warrior. Van also envies Allen's skill and wishes to surpass him.

Also, Van's feelings for Hitomi don't even become apparent until the second half of the series as well. She is in love with Allen and Van only acts towards her as a fan. (I know, people are going to disagree with this one.)

Also, the only times that Van really gets angry at Allen are due to differences of opinion, where Allen is usually the wiser.

I know I'm missing some points, but these are my main ones.

I've seen this rival in love gone wrong thing done in other love triangles...

AerisxCloudxTifa-The girls both feel competitive with each other, but they are also very good friends.

TamahomexMiakaxHotohori-There is some jealously there. Especially in the beginning. It probably doesn't help that Tamahome and Hotohori come from very different social background. But, they are Suzaku Seishi first and foremost. Plus, they really do respect each other. Hotohori offers to help out Tamahome's family, and wants Miaka to be happy with him. Tamahome is upset by Hotohori's death as well. I could name more, but I digress.

YukixTohruxKyo-The boy's do hate each other. But, it isn't cause by their love for Tohru(though that is making things harder.) It started long before Tohru came.

Well, that's all I have say for now. I apologize for this sloppy little piece.
