Since I've seen it already -- people starting to defend their dislike and hatred of characters with "Baa-Baa-Herd-Mentality" comebacks -- I'm wondering about something ( Read more... )

Not all of these are from series I'm a particularly big fan of, just stuff I've seen or have watched on occasion.

Shampoo, from Ranma 1/2: I'll admit to being a big fan of Mousse, and the way she treats him makes me want to slap her silly. Even not considering the way she acts in regards to getting Ranma, some of which can be explained by the laws and customs by which she was raised, I can't forgive her treatment of Mousse. If she just ignored him, I wouldn't have a problem. Even if she smacked him for hitting on her, hey, he should know what's coming; he's been dealing with it long enough. No, it's a scene early on in his appearances. She tells him to go back home to China with his tail between his legs (going by the English translation here), and he snaps, and says that he will, and demands who would want an ice queen like her anyway. Now, if she honestly didn't want his attention at all, she would have just let him walk away. But NO, she HAS to have him wrapped around her little finger there for her to abuse, so she stomps him into retracting the statement, thus ruining one of his only scenes of actual defiance.

Goku, from DBZ: Goku is the biggest hypocrite in the entire damn series. He yammers on and on about solving things without fighting, but, the moment Kuririn is killed and he hits Super Sayajin, he tosses those ideals to the wind and pummels the SHIT out of Freeza to satisfy his own hurt and need for revenge. He lets villains live for his own little morals when there's NO sign that they have any intent to change, and sentences other people to suffering, loss, and death for his altruism. He blatantly mocks Vegeta by saying that he will always be the stronger of the two of them, so why does Vegeta bother to train, but then later, in order to talk Vegeta into fusing with him, says, "You'll always be my prince." He chooses to go off and train Ubuu instead of staying to raise and train his OWN SON Goten. Just...raugh. ><

Sasami, from Tenchi Muyo: This isn't so much hate as it is an extremely limited tolerance. She's too cute, too angelically good, too sweet-tempered, too selfless, too well-liked and fawned over by downright everyone, and just generally too PERFECT for me to be able to put up with her long. Good god, at least Chibi-Usa, while being fluffy cotton-candy pink, has a nasty little temper on her, and can be rather selfish. Sasami is just too much like a pint-sized Mary Sue for me to have any liking for her.

Aya, from Weiss Kreuz: Okay, pretty boy, you have your reasons, yes. So does everyone else. Your backstory does not make your pain more damaging than anyone elses', nor does it give you the right to act like you're so much more hurt than anyone else. Omi is way more screwed up than you, so kindly remove your katana from where it's sheathed in your ass, and go apologize for making him cry over your own stupid biases. Thank you.

Alcyone, from Magic Knight Rayearth: Weak female who sets up her entire life to slaving after him and mindlessly following his orders without any thought other than to get his attention. Zagato pursues his goals to make Emeraude happy, to set her free--it's in an interest other than his own. Alcyone, to me, comes off as only in pursuit of Zagato's love for her own happiness. Also, a fanservice outfit with no real justification behind it--Caldina's from the desert-themed country, she wears the same sort of thing Tarta and Tatra do, and she's a dancer. Alcyone apparently is just trying to show off her curves.

Anyone ever seen Center Stage? The blond teacher playboy guy. I don't hate him for messing with the main character, but rather for insisting on performing in the play that's SUPPOSED to be to showcase the students' talents, and which in many cases will influence the rest of their careers. After the first person chosen twists his ankle, rather than giving the understudy his big chance, he smarmily takes the role for himself, for NO reason other than to show off. Many beatings upon him.

That's all that comes to mind. ^^ Interesting topic!

I'm not incredibly thrilled with Sasami, either. It's not that she's too perfect, but she doesn't have much depth. And I wish the relationship between her and Ayeka could have been a bit expanded in the storylines. The "Sasami and Tsunami" episode came close but... damn, why'd she have to go and hug Ranma? However, she did get Ayeka and Ryoko to kiss, so I can't fault her completely.

And while you're right on Alcyone... c'mon, she's the bad guy! :-) It's not as if she's supposed to be the ultimate standard for female behavior. And I can actually see the outfit, because she really does mostly try to seduce Zagato throughout the series. But oh well, I hate Ascot, so I can't complain.
