"What is that..?" ........... "Backup."

Giant Drag were supporting the Cribs the other night, and I missed them. “Blast!” I exclaimed as I read the news on my laptop. She’s great, like Cat Power’s more unruly little sister. I’ve decided she’s going to be my significant other in this decade’s most creative rock power-couple. Anyone who can write a seriously catchy pop song and call it ‘Kevin Is Gay’ is alwite in my book. http://www.giantdrag.com/sound

It’s been a weird week and a bit. My Mum visited me for the first time ever here. There’s never a precise moment when a boy becomes a man (and who would want there to be?), but dinner with her was about as close as I’ll get to it. We spoke honestly to each other for the first time in… ever. Truth can be an irresponsible policy to take with loved ones but every now and then it helps to relieve the pressure. It’s odd - I could always talk to her about dumb things like casual sex or drug intake, but not stuff which really mattered. So I came to a few decisions, or rather I told her about them. Which is probably the same thing. This feeling of elation was marred only by the fact that I couldn’t have done it without alcohol. Bloody hell. It’s arrived at THAT point. My siblings have also reached the age where they drink, a lot. It’s depressing as fuck because I can see that when not under the influence they’re now… like me. Goddamit, ferchrissake. (laughs) This was meant to be a coming of age entry. Or should that be rite of passage? OK, in summary I am very excited about the immediate and long-term future. And it only took 20 years! Aah, God. I'm just so... fucking... complex.

On the plus side this video proves that life is funny, and justice does exist:

PS: I feel we should take a moment to appreciate what must be at least the quote of the week:

"We ought to recognise the difficult situation our [British] troops now fight in, far more difficult than any time in history"

Defence Secretary John Reid on Iraq, there. That whole Somme episode was a walk on the park, obviously.
