opening the coffee shop today alone and before the sun had even come up, i noticed a special message written in the margins of a $5 bill. "GLEN STROUD IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED" was balanced with (and note the quotations) "'SHE' WILL RIP YOU OFF!!" the handwriting struck me as similar to that in a letter i received when i was about fourteen. a man had obviously found my address in a zine review magazine or something, and he sent me an invitation. by sending nude pictures of myself and agreeing to a new correspondence which would "leave my pussy dripping," i could become a priestess in his satanic cult. he cited the name of another girl who had already joined the ranks and whose title was "princess". he closed the message with something that one of my more spiritual and misunderstood teenage penpals told me was wiccan after i ran the note in my zine. in this other language, he had propositioned me further. never having been told such filthy things, especially while growing up with very religious parents in a cave in the forest, i think i responded with an angry postcard, not wanting to spend the full 32 cents to reply in letter form. my form of justice. look out, glen.
