Terry Fox - A True Canadian Hero

Sep 17, 2005 10:19

Cancer research in Canada owes a great debt of gratitude to this young man. His daily marathon across Canada on one leg and a prosthetic limb to raise money and awareness helped the growing understanding of cancer and it's treatment over the last 25 years.

To attempt to cross Canada while running a marathon may seem insane but it caught the imagination and hearts of Canadians in a fashion that is so rare today. We know how big our country is, so running a daily marathon to cross it seems foolhardy. But it did not stop him. It's all the more tragic that he had to stop mid-way because the cancer had spread to his lungs.

Thank-you Terry Fox.
