This State was established as a result of the view of Pastor Roger Williams that the Church he served was irredeemably corrupt, leading to his departure from his pulpit in Salem.

Rhode Island is arguably the most independent of the original Colonies, first to declare independence, and ratifying the Constitution only after threat of invasion from the United States as an enemy power.
Rhode Island voted heavily for Lyndon Johnson, and for Jimmy Carter twice, and has abolished the practice of execution of murderers, the balance of probability being that they had it coming.
