The sidebar: Should I keep the current grey/use a lighter shade of grey/use some variation of blue/other?

Does anyone know how to get the sidebar to extend all the way down to the bottom of the page, instead of stopping where the content stops? It's really ugly the way it is and it's driving me crazy!

Also, there's this weird blue strip at the bottom of my page. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

I'm in the process of making my own layout. LJ's extremely complicated CSS is driving me crazy and I have no idea what I'm doing. It's almost 1 a.m., I'm super sleepy, so I'm going to use a random template first in lieu of the actual thing until I come up with something halfway decent.

I have no idea who the guy in the picture is. I'm guessing he's Milo Ventimig-Ican'tspellhisname, or Jess from Gilmore Girls and Peter Petrelli from Heroes; but he also looks a bit like Christian Bale. I hope he's Christian Bale, because otherwise, I'm gonna have to need a new header.

The old one was "You don't know what it's been like meeting someone like you". It's a line from Stereophonics' Superman, off their "Language. Violence. Sex. Other?" CD which I personally think is absolutely fantastic. I know it's not cool to like Stereophonics because the critics love tearing them apart, but fuck the critics.
