Harry James Potter is an English Auror who is known to many in the Wizarding World as 'The Chosen One' or 'The Boy Who Lived'. Since his first trip to Hogwarts at the age of eleven Harry Potter has been a controversial figure, often enjoying or suffering the attention of the Wizarding Press. However, he was a household name long before that, often used as an example in children's bedtime stories as reassurance that He Who Must Not Be Named had been vanquished. Today, the name of Harry Potter is used for much the same purpose, because of his role in the War, and the true defeat of He Who Must Not Be Named.

Early Life
Life with the Dursleys
Following the brutal murder of his parents, James and Lily Potter, Harry was taken into custody by Albus Dumbledore, who made the decision that he would be raised by his last surviving relatives, the Dursleys of Surrey. Mrs. Dursley, a muggle, was the sister of Lily Potter. Dumbledore placed a powerful charm on the family as a protection for the infant, should He Who Must Not Be Named ever find a way to return. The Wizarding World at large was unaware of Harry Potter's whereabouts, for his own protection.

Harry was kept ignorant of his own powers so that he would enjoy as uneventful a childhood as possible. However, there have been many unsubstantiated reports that he suffered at the hands of his muggle relations, who were fearful and suspicious of magic. Mr. Potter has often refrained from elaborating on his upbringing, though he is still in contact with his cousin, Dudley Dursley, whom he reconciled with shortly before he moved out of his aunt and uncle's home. top

Time at Hogwarts

Harry Potter prepares for the Tri-Wizard Tournament with best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
While Harry Potter's experiences at Hogwarts have been exhaustively reported by a veritable army of former classmates, certain facts can be independantly verified. Harry was sorted into Gryffindor House, as were his parents before him. His grades were respectable until some difficulty in his fourth year, when he was enlisted to participate in the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Despite his lack of qualifications [Tri-Wizard champions are required to be at least 17 years of age at the time of the first task], the Goblet of Fire nominated him. It was later found out to be the contrivance of He Who Must Not Be Named, via one of his followers, Barty Crouch Jr. Harry tied for the cup with the legitimate Hogwarts champion, Cedric Diggory, who tragically lost his life when the winners were transported by portkey to a dark ritual involving He Who Must Not Be Named.

Despite the tumultuous events of his fourth year, the scrutiny of the Ministry, and the untimely death of his Godfather [Sirius Black] during his fifth year, Harry managed to sit for his OWL exams, and pass a sufficient number of them to enroll in the requisite number of NEWT-level classes in his sixth year. It is said that he assumed a more active role in unraveling the mystery of He Who Must Not Be Named's apparent immortality, along with Headmaster Albus Dumbledore prior to the Headmaster's tragic death at the hands of Severus Snape.

Harry did not return to Hogwarts to complete his final year of school. Accompanied by his closest friends, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, he spent the bulk of the year searching for dark magic artifacts that would defeat He Who Must Not Be Named. top

Role in the War
Despite his constant denials, Harry Potter and those closest to him have been credited with almost single-handedly defeating He Who Must Not Be Named. Several hastily-produced biographies have been published in the last year, but are largely believed to be mostly speculation. Verifiable eye-witness accounts of the Battle of Hogwarts have confirmed that Harry Potter was the last person to duel with He Who Must Not Be Named before he ceased to exist.

Prior to the final battle, however, there was a great deal of preparation done. It is said that a number of dark artifacts had to be located and destroyed before He Who Must Not Be Named was vulnerable enough to be permanently stopped. Potter, along with Weasley and Granger, are said to have spent many months in pursuit of these artifacts, picking up where Albus Dumbledore had left off. It is widely believed that the final artifact was He Who Must Not Be Named's snake familiar, who was beheaded moments before his death by Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter's classmate and close friend. top

Since the War
Immediately following the War, Harry was recruited by Kingsley Shacklebolt to join the Aurors. The Ministry had been devastated by the War and the preceeding regime changes, and there was a desperate need to restore their numbers. He was given special dispensation to enroll in Auror Training prior to completing his Hogwarts education. His training is ongoing, although he has been appointed to several official task forces to locate and apprehend fugitive Death Eaters as part of his field training.

Harry Potter is single and lives at the home of his late Godfather, Sirius Black, an unplottable location in Greater London. top
