Summary: Everything was normal one second... and then something happens unexpected and no one knows what to make of it. There were no legends about this.
Notes: Written for my 25 Days of Christmas Drabble-a-thon thingy for babydracky prompt Jacob/Leah - Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event. Also written for 100_tales prompt nature and written for twilight100 prompt beach. Holy cow! I can't stop writing this! Hope you all like this!

It was sometime around midnight at the La Push beach, when their wolf instincts became a lot more demanding and a lot harder to control.
It was late January and, to humans, it was very cold outside - the water was freezing and the surrounding area was covered in snow. Neither Leah or Jacob minded or really noticed, however, because they weren’t human. And the weather didn’t affect either of them at all… well, that they knew of anyway.
The two had just ran the perimeter of La Push in their wolf forms and had came to the beach to relax.

Leah glanced over to the reflection of the moon in the ocean when she was suddenly hit with heat. Unbearable heat and not anything she had really felt before. At least not in her wolf form… and definitely not at this high of a pulse.
What the heck!? Jacob’s cry of surprise as he started feeling it also was soon lost; his wolf took over his mind. Leah let out a howl as her human’s mind was suddenly pushed to the back and her wolf’s mind and instincts came to the front. Jacob’s wolf howled even louder then hers did.

The two wolves howled together once at the moon before Leah bounded away from Jacob. She ran as fast as she could down the beach, and Jacob chased her. Despite the fact that Leah was the fastest wolf in La Push, Jacob’s determination to catch her had him within inches of Leah. She let out a excited howl, and he joined her. His wolf enjoyed the chase even more then anything else he had experienced and suddenly leaped.
Leah rolled over when Jacob leaped at her. Had she been human she would have been laughing happily as he pinned her.

Leah, still pinned under Jacob, began licking at his face. Jacob too, started to lick her own face. After a few minutes he backed away enough so she could up. At every move she made, he studied, waiting for any chances that she might make to run away. However, Leah’s wolf planned nothing of the sort… she didn’t want to run away from Jacob’s wolf.
The beach’s sand stuck to Leah’s coat and she shook it off before moving closer to Jacob. Leah’s wolf gently brushed herself against Jacob, showing praise for being able to catch her. For winning her.

The bright morning sunrise woke Leah up. The second it did, she ached in places that shouldn’t be aching. And she was human… naked… laying on the beach. Before she scream out “What the hell?”, something moved behind her - wrapping his arms tighter around her waist. Leah’s heart speed up in shock and confusion. She turned around quickly and found her alpha there - in the same predicament as she was; human and naked.
“Jacob!” Her voice cracked loudly, and she shook him awake. All the while she did that she tried to remember what happened, however she couldn’t remember though.

All Leah could remember of last night was going down to the beach to relax after the usual patrol around La Push. The very last thing she could feel was the sudden heat that overclouded her system as she looked at the full moon…
Jacob woke up after a second of her constant shaking of his body. She couldn’t stop though and didn’t until Jacob pulled her hand off him and held it down at her sides. She stayed silent though… she didn’t know what to say. From the aching and the heat she had felt, she exactly what happened.

“What happened?” Jacob asked finally, after he took in both of their states. He was still confused… he didn’t understand how he couldn’t remember anything past the heat of last night till the time Leah had awoken him.
Her voice unsteady, Leah stated, “I think we just experienced something that happens to wolves…”
“Experienced something? What?”
“Mating.” Leah stated, saying what had plagued her mind as soon as she realized what happened.
“Mating? But -” Jacob started, his voice high in shock, “- how is that possible!? We didn’t imprint on each other!”
Leah shook her head, “I don’t know...”

“We need to talk to Billy…” Jacob stated after a few minutes of taking a few deep breaths (and tried to concentrate on the calming waves crashing behind them). “Maybe there was a legend he overlooked.”
Leah wanted to protest… she didn’t want to let Billy know she just slept with his son. However, she knew they had to find out exactly what happened. If this was a freak of nature or not. From what they knew of the others who had been wolves longer then they were, none of them had experienced anything like this before.
“Fine… let’s go.”

From the look on Billy’s face they both realized the council never heard of this happen before. There were no legends… no stories dictating that this ever happened.
“We’ll look through the old books… maybe something this has happened before, we just don’t know because it might not happen often.” Billy promised Leah and Jacob.
“Like me?!? I highly doubt you’ll find something since there has NEVER been a female werewolf!” Leah shouted… anger finally taking over, which had been slowly growing since the beach..
“She’s right, dad… she’s the first of her kind. I highly doubt you’ll find anything.”

“At least we don’t have to worry about me getting pregnant.” Leah stated offhandedly once they were back at the beach. Billy promised to find anything he could about what had happened and called Sue and Old Quil for a council meeting.
Jacob stared at her and could have kicked himself for not thinking about that before. He hadn’t even thought about how Leah might get pregnant despite the fact that he knew that was the main reason for mating. To procreate. But then again, she couldn’t get pregnant… she no longer had her monthly visitor which made it possible.

Everything went back to normal… for the most part anyway. Billy, Sue, and Old Quil continued to look for an answer and most of Sam’s pack members stayed clear of Leah, while Leah tried to stay clear of everyone. This had to be more horrifying then anything else… or at least just as horrifying as the time Sam left her.
Leah let out a frustrated sigh as she dug her toes into the sand, in the same beach where the whole problem started. The stupid beach calmed her and she had no clue why. Taking off her clothes, she transformed.

Jacob tried to avoid everyone, Leah included, by visiting the Cullen’s every time he wasn’t patrolling or sleeping. Rosalie teased him merciless about what happened, however both Bella and Edward avoided the topic just as he wanted everyone else to do too. Nessie distracted him whenever he read her books that he barely understood.
One night, when the stars were just starting to appear over La Push, Jacob ran towards the beach… which he often went to after what happened and whenever he left the Cullen’s.
Tonight, however, he found another wolf there as well.
A small gray wolf.
Leah.

Leah transformed back into a human as soon as she felt queasy. She hadn’t wanted to have to throw up in her wolf form. And a few seconds after returned to being human, the nauseous feelings swelled even larger and she threw up on the beach, in the sand. The smell of the puke unsettled her further and caused her to throw up again.
Suddenly she heard another wolf come closer to her, running as fast as he could to be at her side. Wincing at the stench, she turned to face the intruder and paused - surprised he was here.

When he reached, he transformed into a human so he could talk to her. Both of them was naked… but they didn’t realize it, not even when Jacob reached out to touch Leah. Concern radiated from Jacob as he quickly glanced at her throw up.
“Are you okay?” Jacob asked, not even noticing he started to slowly rub her back. Leah, however, noticed but didn’t comment - it felt too good to say something that would cause him to stop.
“Yeah I think so… I feel a lot better now,” Leah admitted, softly, her eyes half-closed thanks to the relaxing gesture.

“What the hell did you eat? Are you sick?” Jacob questioned, confusion radiated off his words. If it had been any other woman in the world, he could understand her being sick, however he couldn’t here. Werewolves didn’t get sick… at all.
“Nothing I ate would have made me sick,” Leah stated, confusion laced her words as well. “I feel completely better right now and if it wasn’t for the smell, I would say I feel like I never had gotten sick.” It was at that moment that she remembered what happened here at the beach one month ago. “No.”

“No? Leah? What’s wrong?!” Jacob stared at her in concern… she went into complete shock after she muttered the word ‘no’ loudly. Leah shook her head and stood up, grabbing her discarded dress, dressed, and ran as fast as her legs carried her towards a store. A store the could possibly hold the answer to the question that repeated itself over and over.
Morning sickness? Could this seriously be possible!? Am I pregnant?!?
Jacob stood there on the beach, worried and confused, but he left Leah go on by herself. It was obvious that she wanted to be by herself.

Oh god, oh god, oh god, That thought repeated over and over as Leah stared at the pregnancy stick. The stupid plus sign blared at her, mocking her. “Fuck… shit… holy mother of--”
Leah’s rant stopped when she suddenly burst into tears. She just couldn’t handle this anymore.
Sue opened the door as soon as she heard her daughter’s tears. She was worried about what might have had happened when Leah was down at the beach. “Leah?”
Leah turned around, still sobbing, allowing her mother to see what had unsettled her so badly. Sue’s mouth dropped open in shock.

“You’re pregnant.” Sue could barely believe it, and she had to repeat it several times as if that would help solidify everything. It didn’t, nor did it make her feel much better, but she couldn’t stop herself from repeating it.
Leah wrapped herself in her loving mother’s embrace and cried herself to exhaustion. When Sue realized Leah could barely stay awake any longer, she helped her daughter to her bedroom and tucked her in. Leaving her there, Sue went to the phone.
“Hey, Sue, what’s up?”
“Where’s Jacob?”
“Down at the beach, why?”
“Thanks Billy,” Sue said before hanging up.

Sue drove down to the beach and glanced around to see if she could spot Jacob anywhere. She found him down by the beach, sitting down in shorts watching the waves crash against the shore. Sue took a deep breath before going down there.
Jacob smiled up at her when he turned around to greet her. His smile, however, fell as he took in her face.
“What’s wrong?” He jumped up and was in front of her in barely a second.
“I need you to come with me, Jake.” Sue stated, taking his hand and led him to her car.

“What’s wrong? Why was she crying? What happened?” Jacob whispered to Sue when she took her into Leah’s bedroom.
“I don’t know if I should tell you or wait for her to tell you.” Sue answered, softly. Her eyes shined with tears.
“Tell me!” Jake whispered back, concerned about his ‘beta’.
“All I can say right now is to think back to last month and what happened down at the beach with you two. The answer is there,” Sue stated, before backing out of the room. She wanted to leave those two alone.
Jake glanced down at Leah in confusion.

Jacob’s mind took a minute before the realization came to him. He let out a sharp gasp. Down at the beach a month ago something had happened between Leah and him which involved with ‘mating’. And mating usually meant in the animal kingdom was to procreate. His eyes widened as he studied Leah’s sleeping figure on the bed.
Leah woke up suddenly and wasn’t sure why until she opened her eyes and found Jacob laying beside her on the bed. Her eyes widened in confusion and then everything came flying back at her.
What the hell was he doing here?

“You realized today down at the beach, right?” Jake questioned quietly, he didn’t want to get her angry or upset. And he was pleasantly surprised that Leah didn’t start screaming at him or ripping him open.
Leah nodded, “Yeah… I remembered what happened between the two of us.” Leah paused, unsure of what else to say.
“Did you confirm it yet? Just in case?” Jake questioned, silently wincing at how his questions came out like.
Leah nodded, and she felt like crying. She realized that this would be like a worse nightmare for Jake - she wasn’t Bella. “I’m sorry.”
“Why?”

“Why I’m sorry?” Leah questioned and Jake nodded cautiously. She got up off the bed. “It’s it obvious? I’m the reason this happened to us! Come on! It has to be me… its because I’m the only damn female in the packs! The first to have ever EXSISTED! You just were unlucky enough to be there at the beach right beside me! It’s my fault I’m pregnant, and I’m sorry it has to be me!”
“It’s not just your fault!” Jake interrupted her rant, standing up beside her as well. He wrapped his arms around her, to stop her pacing.

“The fault was mine as well, I was down there. I did even more then you did… or you wouldn’t have gotten pregnant.” Leah collapsed against his chest. “Why are you saying sorry? It’s not your fault!”
“Because I’m not Bella and I know you don’t want this…” Leah stated softly, barely above a whisper. “… not with me.”
“Why wouldn’t I want this with you? You can finally have what you wanted - a family… a child of your own. You don’t have to wait till you can control your transformations. I don’t regret what happened at the beach.”

“You don’t regret what happened at the beach?” She pulled away enough to look up at him. “But I’m not Bella.”
“I know that… and thank god,” Jake stated, jokingly. “I realized a few months ago that Bella was meant to be with Edward. Nessie made me realize that. Maybe in a different world we could’ve been together, if there was no vampires or werewolves. But we live in this world, and we aren’t meant to be. I was just a teenager with a first crush.”
“You kept that from us…”
Jake shrugged. “Didn’t really need to think about it.”

Minutes passed before Leah sighed loudly, causing Jake to chuckle. “So what now?”
“We try to prepare to be parents… your mom knows, she’s the one who brought me here from the beach,” Jake stated finally. Leah smiled, and mentally made a note to thank her mother. She definitely needed Jacob right now.
“Yeah, she saw me with the test… I guess after I fell asleep she went to go get you. Where did she go, anyway?”
Jacob let out a laugh, “She went to call Billy with the news that we need to have a council meeting… with everyone.”

Leah let out a growl at the thought… she hated the fact that there was no privacy. There were no secrets and no chance for the others to butt the hell out of your business. It was bad enough when the council informed everyone about what happened at the beach a month ago… and now? She’d guess it would only get worse. Although she had a feeling Seth would be happy for them both… and excited that he’d get to spoil the kid rotten. A smile graced her lips as she thought about that - she could definitely see that happening.

“What are you thinking?” Jacob asked, staring at her in amusement; she went from growling to smiling quickly.
“Seth will spoil our kid rotten,” Leah stated, her stomach doing summersaults as soon as she said ‘our’. Jacob let out a laugh, both at the thought and the sudden joy he got when she said ‘our’.
“He probably will… but then again, I think I plan on spoiling our kid too. Plus Billy and the others? Oh yeah, there will be no way for the kid not to be spoiled.”
Leah chuckled, softly. “I’d have to agree with you on that.”

Leah nodded, “Yeah… I remembered what happened between the two of us.” Leah paused, unsure of what else to say.
“Did you confirm it yet? Just in case?” Jake questioned, silently wincing at how his questions came out like.
Leah nodded, and she felt like crying. She realized that this would be like a worse nightmare for Jake - she wasn’t Bella. “I’m sorry.”
“Why?”

“Why I’m sorry?” Leah questioned and Jake nodded cautiously. She got up off the bed. “It’s it obvious? I’m the reason this happened to us! Come on! It has to be me… its because I’m the only damn female in the packs! The first to have ever EXSISTED! You just were unlucky enough to be there at the beach right beside me! It’s my fault I’m pregnant, and I’m sorry it has to be me!”
“It’s not just your fault!” Jake interrupted her rant, standing up beside her as well. He wrapped his arms around her, to stop her pacing.

“The fault was mine as well, I was down there. I did even more then you did… or you wouldn’t have gotten pregnant.” Leah collapsed against his chest. “Why are you saying sorry? It’s not your fault!”
“Because I’m not Bella and I know you don’t want this…” Leah stated softly, barely above a whisper. “… not with me.”
“Why wouldn’t I want this with you? You can finally have what you wanted - a family… a child of your own. You don’t have to wait till you can control your transformations. I don’t regret what happened at the beach.”

“You don’t regret what happened at the beach?” She pulled away enough to look up at him. “But I’m not Bella.”
“I know that… and thank god,” Jake stated, jokingly. “I realized a few months ago that Bella was meant to be with Edward. Nessie made me realize that. Maybe in a different world we could’ve been together, if there was no vampires or werewolves. But we live in this world, and we aren’t meant to be. I was just a teenager with a first crush.”
“You kept that from us…”
Jake shrugged. “Didn’t really need to think about it.”

Minutes passed before Leah sighed loudly, causing Jake to chuckle. “So what now?”
“We try to prepare to be parents… your mom knows, she’s the one who brought me here from the beach,” Jake stated finally. Leah smiled, and mentally made a note to thank her mother. She definitely needed Jacob right now.
“Yeah, she saw me with the test… I guess after I fell asleep she went to go get you. Where did she go, anyway?”
Jacob let out a laugh, “She went to call Billy with the news that we need to have a council meeting… with everyone.”

Leah let out a growl at the thought… she hated the fact that there was no privacy. There were no secrets and no chance for the others to butt the hell out of your business. It was bad enough when the council informed everyone about what happened at the beach a month ago… and now? She’d guess it would only get worse. Although she had a feeling Seth would be happy for them both… and excited that he’d get to spoil the kid rotten. A smile graced her lips as she thought about that - she could definitely see that happening.

“What are you thinking?” Jacob asked, staring at her in amusement; she went from growling to smiling quickly.
“Seth will spoil our kid rotten,” Leah stated, her stomach doing summersaults as soon as she said ‘our’. Jacob let out a laugh, both at the thought and the sudden joy he got when she said ‘our’.
“He probably will… but then again, I think I plan on spoiling our kid too. Plus Billy and the others? Oh yeah, there will be no way for the kid not to be spoiled.”
Leah chuckled, softly. “I’d have to agree with you on that.”
