Making a Little List...
There are times I seriously wish my muse would move on to another fandom, or even move back to Trek. I can-and have-spent hours ranting about this wanky, anal, controlling ship filled with people with a massive sense of entitlement to those unfortunates that would listen.
But then it comes back to the fact I do love this ship. I’ve come to love Snape, have always loved Hermione, love how they play off each other in stories, love this ship’s tendency to be paradigm-shifting and epic in scope.
There is an sshg_awards community recently started and they’re still in their nominating period until the 21st. In case there’s anyone on my f-list who doesn’t know about the group or needs a reminder who loves SSHG, I’m posting to encourage you to go nominate. Only stories originally posted before HBP (July 15, 2005) are eligible this round, but you can nominate as many stories per category as you like.
I know someone I discussed the awards with said she thought the awards a waste of time, because essentially, only the usual suspects will be nominated and win. Maybe so. But I think I recommend nominating not so much for the result as the process. Basically, in making my way through my favorites lists and archives I was reminded all over again why it’s hard to break away. So many wonderful stories and writers-some stories I couldn’t stop myself from reading all over again.
Most of my nominees are the usual suspects. However, having made my nominations (and my apologies to the organizers for nominating so many and creating work for them), I thought I’d post on two things: A not-often mentioned author these days, Auror Borealis, who is a favorite of mine among “classic writers” and drabbles again-I thought I’d list the drabbles and drabble series I found below I nominated. Good ones are hard to find from the pre-HBP era and on sshg_awards’ last posting about nominations, even though they’d received 418 nominations, sshg_awards only had two for drabbles and one for drabble series. So I thought if I listed the ones I found to nominate, that might jog people’s memories, give them some ideas.
If you have any drabbles from the pre-HBP era you know of worth reccing/nominating, or overlooked authors from that era (not the usual suspects) I’d love to hear from you.
Auror Borealis
Auror Borealis has a site on FanFictionNet that can be found here but my favorite stories of hers, ones I nominated, aren’t available there, are in fact pretty much to only be found in the files of When I Kissed the Teacher, so I don’t know how many on my f-list have read this wonderful author, especially since she last posted in 2002, but I thought I’d list the stories of hers I particularly like. The first two are PWP smut without redeeming qualities-except they’re fun, and manage to be within a plausible character range and not quite what you’d expect, especially considering the title of “Detention.” “Compelling the Heart” is not-quite-the-usual love potion story and Blank Slate not-quite-the-usual amnesia story and both are unabashedly romantic. I found myself rereading all these stories. The only author contact info I know of, should you yourself decide any of these deserve a nod, would be through her FFN author profile.
