I was doing research for my WIP Book of Shadows (Yes, I’m working on it, just finished the 4th scene of planned 6, which for me this soon after an update is pretty damn good. if he's not good then I just don't see true growth of character in ANYONE and the series will be highly depressing.

I agree--even before I became a fan of Snape the one thing I didn't much like about HP was the relenting Gryffindor-centricity. The flatness that all Gryffindors are true and all Slytherins evil.

Well, we certainly found out Gryffindors can be evil--look at Pettigrew (though I hear some try to deny that just because he was a Marauder he was a Gryffindor but I think that's ridiculous)

If Snape is evil, the message sent is this:

1) Your fate is written at eleven-years-old if someone could look into your soul.

2) You can tell someone is a villain by looking at them--just look for the hooked nose and greasy hair.

3) It's OK to be bigoted--you're right to believe they are all alike.

4) It's OK to torment and bully that creepy kid--he's a future murderer and deserves everything he gets.

5) Don't be foolish like Dumbledore and give people second chances--humans aren't capable of development, change, redemption.

I'd truly hate that--and would think those are terrible messages to send--partiuclarly in a group of books beloved by children.
