So Tonks Is a Hufflepuff?

Jul 02, 2007 00:05

I was doing research for my WIP Book of Shadows (Yes, I’m working on it, just finished the 4th scene of planned 6, which for me this soon after an update is pretty damn good. It's why I'm behind on my f-list reading among other things to take advantage of a spurt of writing while I can). Well, I was looking up Hufflepuffs trying to learn whether it was Bones or Abbott who withdrew from Hogwarts soon into Book 6. And lookee what I found?

List of Hufflepuffs

I always liked the idea of Tonks as a Hufflepuff-why should all the good guys be Gryffindors? I think I even named her as a Hufflepuff in a previous chapter.

So, anyone else in the midst of Deathy Hallows Anxiety disorder? I’ve deliberately been trying to be spoiled-I really don’t want to wait to know what happens to Snape. Well, I found a “spoiler” which was confirmed to be a hoax, but it still gave me a scare because had it been true it would be a shipkiller. Speaking of which, a shipper friend of mine is saying her husband is hoping Snape won’t just turn out evil but kill Hermione then be killed himself so he can get his wife back!

I think I can take Snape's death with equanimity. I mean, this is fiction, and fantasy at that. So, we all beg bambu345 to lend us the ritual from The Summoning and...

Seriously, although it would be a blow, there’d almost certainly be ways to deal with Snape’s death that would be canon-compliant even. (Polyjuice is our friend). Besides, it’s a lot easier to go AU from say the very last chapter of the last book than is the case with Sirius where two more books of canon will have rolled over his corpse-yet Sirus/Remus among other pairings have survived. Hermione dying would be harder-she has fewer reasons to hide her still being alive afterwards so it would be tricky-but I bet Hermione/Draco and Hermione/Snape among other shippers would manage. I think I could even manage to recover from a Ron/Hermione epilogue where they live happily ever after until Hermione dies, Ron beside her, at 140 with her great-great-great grand children gathered around her. (Because that is just soooooo wrong on so many levels, that AU-land, here I come! Hang on, Hermione! We'll save you!)

What I don’t think I could move on from is Snape turning out to be evil. What captured my imagination is the idea of a dark, flawed hero-damaged perhaps, sometimes seemingly cruel, yes-but still a hero (the most interesting kind anyway imo-complex and not what he seems). If he really is officially just a nasty, greasy, murdering traitor I doubt I’ll be able to even muster up interest in finishing my WIP, or even read HP fic ever again. I think it's easier to be AU in events than a vision of a character.

I guess we’ll see in less than 3 weeks.

hbp, snape
