Every fool has a lesson that's hard to learn.

As of yesterday, I am now an Airman (E-3)! Yay! I thought I'd be more excited than I am considering that making this rank is a signal that I'm not really a "booter" anymore. Some people can stay this rank for a few years...hopefully not me. I wish I could take my rating exam for E-4 in September, but I have to wait until March. I'm sort of bummed out over that, but it will give me time to focus on studying for my Enlisted Aviation Warfare Wings (EAWS), which I should be able to get in no time at all. Oh, I also have another ribbon to stick on my uniform next week. It's the one for Anti-Terrorism that everyone gets once they're at their first command for three months. I'm excited for all of this stuff, but give me a couple years and I'll dread having to sow/pin/attach more things to my uniforms.

Tyler started text messaging me while he was on watch Saturday. I don't know if any of you even remember me mentioning him before, but he was the guy I was talking to before I left for boot camp...and afterwards while I was at ATT. The only time I ever hear from him is when he's on watch, but then again, I never call him either. That's an inside joke of sorts, I guess.

Anyway, he asked me how my 4th of July was and when I told him I got drunk, his text reply was, "Oh my lord!! I want to hear all about it! Did you have a good time? How drunk...screw this, I'm calling you...answer." haha. When he called me he was so speechless, but he said he was so proud of me. That's Tyler for ya--my party boy. I promised to drunk dial him if I actually get drunk again and he said that it would really, really make his day! Well, I really miss talking to him--we talked everyday for the month prior to me leaving for boot camp. Every time we've talked since then, they have been long phone calls. I've always felt so comfortable talking to him and I've opened up with him about things that I haven't with anyone else I'm friends with.

When I go home for leave, I'll make a stop in Virginia to visit him. He's also thinking of coming out here to visit me. I'd love to see him...just to see what's there. He even made a point of asking me, "So how's your boyfriend doing?" Oh, you mean the one I don't have? He told me that was his way of making sure we were both still single. It actually comforts me knowing that we both are, for some strange reason...

I went to John's place Friday night and a bunch of us watched Pirates of the Carribean and then Date Movie. I enjoyed both, but POTC2, in my opinion, was better. I did see them backwards though, so that may have clouded my judgement. John called me Saturday morning after he got done paintballing (hah. I was supposed to go...) and said he was coming to base. I didn't really feel like hanging out with him...shh...but, I was hungry, so I said we could go get something to eat. I Googled Chinese take out places in the area, which are very few, and found one near John's place. So, we got some food and then went to Wal-Mart after eating because I needed to look for new bedding for my brand new bed--queen size! Didn't get anything. We drove back to base after that and met up with a couple of the people from Friday night and watched Grandma's Boy. That's the most random movie I have ever watched. Even though it had NO PLOT, I still found it amusing. Kind of like Seinfeld, I guess. We all went out to dinner at Chili's after that.

Enjoyable except for on the way home where I think John asked me out. The conversation started as him asking me something about how long it takes for me to develop feelings for someone. I said that if they were someone I'd been friends with, usually a couple months. If I started dating someone right away, without being friends first, then it would be different. So, he said, "...so if I asked you out you'd probably say yes?" I paused, kind of cringed to myself and said, "Uhh, I'd probably say no." But, this seemed much like a hypothetical conversation to me. I am not, nor will I ever, date him.

I was challenged to a tennis match for Sunday, but it fell through. Considering I haven't played in almost 3 years, that could have been interesting. I went to the NEX and bought some new tennis balls anyway, just so I'd have some. While I was in the sports section, some random guy walked by and said, "So, this is where all the pretty chicks hang out?..." I just laughed, bashfully--how do you respond to that? lol. I ran a couple of miles in the afternoon and did a long ab workout. My friend Roger called me after my shower and said that he and his roommate locked themselves out of their car. They were really hungry, so I went to McDonald's for them since they were stuck at the beach and then dropped it off to them. I got a $5 tip for my troubles!

Chris called me Sunday evening too. It was really just a phone call that he made in his excitement over the fact that tomorrow is his last day of training. He's pretty much the only guy not taking leave, so he gets the barracks to himself. How nice. There were a lot of awkward pauses within the conversation, as per usual lately. It was a short call due to that. I've lost that loving feeling for him, I guess. We could have had something solid if he didn't have to go to Iraq. Such is life...it's so much harder now that the blue skies have gone away.
