"The Bees of Mecrie" is done and submitted, with an hour to spare!  And yes, there ended up being bees in it, and in fact, anyone reading it would probably be amazed to know I wrote the first half of it with no bees in mind.  It's my shortest story so far at only 1700 words, but I think it's pretty self-contained.  My one proofreader said so, at least.  :P

I ended up staying home sick from work today, but I still didn't do any writing until later in the evening when I would've been home anyway.  Spent the day reading and watching TV, and my bro Eric came over after his classes and we had a late lunch and watched a movie.  Then I took a hot epsom salt bath, lounged around a little, and finally at like 7pm decided to give finishing this story another shot (I'd thought that I wouldn't, since I was sick and was getting no inspiration).  I'd only been working a little bit and was stumped when I got an email from Twitter.  I tweeted yesterday - or Monday, maybe? - about trying to get something written for Redstone before their submissions closed.  Well, tonight, as I was struggling to finish, the editor of Redstone tweeted at me and said, "Time is growing short!"  o_O  Well, then I had to finish.  And what do you know, it turned out pretty okay.  So!  My first pro-payment submission!  Okay not really, since "SIDS" is still in Writers of the Future, and winning that counts towards SFWA.  But magazine-wise, yep, first one.  Exciting!

Next stop, getting a little inspiration to submit to Beneath Ceaseless Skies, which is a pro-payment fantasy mag.  I've got a couple beginnings that might have some potential...
