Since I've come back to Austin things have mellowed out slightly. In that, I think maybe I'm just coping to the mass amounts of STUFF a little better.
Friday I kicked ass loading out for Nine Inch Nails at the Frank Erwin Center.
I mean it, I kicked ass.
Monica, the business agent, who's a total sweetie, asked me to come back Sunday night for another load out, and I have a load in and out on Friday, giving me a great deal more work than I had been getting. Sure, it doesn't pay anywhere near as well as film work does, but it's good honest work, and I appreciate that very well.
I'm also climbing the ladder there a bit. First job I had there I was just another pusher, loading cases and things into trucks. Friday's job I got a cooler NIN tee shirt than the pushers, I was an assistant to the case loaders and got to actually handle the band's equiptment.
That's right, I'm holding two guitar picks from the show, bitch.
On the job I got last night I was promoted again, to working sound load out.
Call me a geek, but coiling cable is a true love of mine.
I made friends with some of the other guys last night since it was a smaller gig and people could meet a little easier than on a cattle call.
This coming Friday is going to be massively insane for work.
NIN was a big show. Six trucks.
Hah! The show this Friday, some country singer named Kenny Chesney, has eightteen trucks to load! It could be a dangerous gig since there will be a lot of greenies working with us. People always get hurt when newbies come in and get all gun ho...
Okay, so enough about work...
This weekend was pretty damn cool. On Friday before work I made a picnic and went out to Hamilton Pool for the first time with Kelly and hiked around for a while. We ran in to the crew for the horror indie Teeth.
I've melded easily into being good friends with Kelly and his wife Stephanie, who I met the next day. I feel so lucky to have come across such a great couple, and individually, such great friends.
I'm really looking forward to doing yoga with Stephanie on Wednesday :)
On Saturday
deeptape texted me out of no where and we ended up going out to the
Live Oak Brewery for their 9th annual festival in which they have tours, free beer, and local bands and vendors.
Across the street from the brewery was a glass art studio and a clay studio, where we toured as well.
I got to finally meet Stephanie, Kelly's wife, who I connected with instantly, just as I had with Kelly.
We also ran in to Tim and Kim, who I had met at the last buddhist meeting I made it to, at John P. Funk's place. They had a friend with them who had come down from Maryland, so getting the group to go for mexican food and margaritas was an easy deal. Corinna met up with us at Polvos and after eating she and Jason took off while the rest of us went to Tim and Kim's place where we topped the evening off with wine and songs.
Stephanie and Kelly let me stay over at their place, and the next day Kelly took me to my defensive driving class.
Hooray resposibiliy. I'm so glad that I got that out of the way.
Afterwards Kelly picked me up and dropped me off at home to get ready for work, then took me to hang out with him and Stephanie before work while I got to eat dinner with them and steal a cool hat from Kelly.
I already mentioned the job, but I just want to say again how nice it is to be getting some work.
Today I battled with my truck.
I've been having massive problems with the rear window not opening. Without it being able to roll down with the turn of my key in the back, I can't get the tailgate to open at all, making the vehicle useless as a truck.
::pout::
Hey, I really use that thing! I need it working by this weekend to help my brother move into his new place.
Some more good news... When I did the stage over at Monkey Wrench, one of the guys there, Dave, ordered a couple of books on building catapults for me. They've come in now, and I'm going to ride over there (hopefully it won't be too damn stormy all week) and take a look at them.
Ohh...and speaking of good news... My baby loves me!
He came by yesterday and left me a rose and love letter to find, the cheeky monkey!
We're planning on a little run away for our one year anniversary next month. Between the 21st and 23rd, we'll go to Houston to see the
Body Worlds exhibit and compltely hide away together and meld.
Ohhhh I can't wait!
