what a tiny world

I was out in the Russian version of the Midwest and I found a Russian who was visiting his birth-home while he was on vacation. He lived in the same city I did and worked a mile from where I did. Crazy, eh?

Definiely. My friends laugh when I break out into "USA USA USA" chants amidst a sporting event, and I must admit there is a touch of irony to it when I do that, but still when you are far from home there is nothing like bumping into someone from home.

Haven't been to any "foreign" countries (except DR) to really relate. Interesting take. I don't think I'd consider it a small world running into another American (or Dominican) but certainly most fortunate. Running into someone from your neighborhood on the other hand would make me raise not one, but two eyebrows

Well running into another American is def common. In a big known city I'd even expect some Dominicans (just got to Madrid and already heard one car blasting bachata). Brussels isn't of terrible note as far as immigration though, and they told me of the 1.2m ppl there perhaps 3000 Dominicans only. I think what surprised me most were the circumstances of bumping into them at this empty 24 hour beer spot at the end of the weekend.
