In the end, there was little to prevent their demise. Years and years of aimless travel and hopeless heartbreaks had desensitized them to the possibilty of death, and when they were gone, lost to a small suck of space-time and a great swath of darkness, nobody was as unsurprised as those of the Bebop crew.
"We'll go on tomorrow," said Spike the moment before the impact struck their heads and snapped their necks.
Jet bared his teeth, grin distorted; Faye smiled, choking out a giggle and a hissed "Let's jam."
Being unsurprised didn't mean that they were unmoved.
