I'm going to be mainlining and finishing s3 today, but I watched a couple eps last night and here are my as-I-watched reactions.
The Awakening:
- Aang has hair! And he does the angry thing for a while because everyone thinks he's dead and poor baby he destroyed his gilder.
- Zuko and Aang? Two sides of the flipping coin! Zuko feels bad about Iroh. As. He. Should. Iroh rocks.
- Toph, STILL AWESOME.
- Katara! Oh, sweetie. *HUGS*
- Azula has once again demonstrated how awesome she is, and smarter than everybody. It was very clever for her to "give the praise" to Zuko, because unless she's 100% she won't risk her rep.
- Sokka has hair too! And they're all undercover and being awesome and sneaky. The team hug was cute.
- But lets not forget: Mai/Zuko. Okay, Mai is awesome and I love that the show didn't over play the waiting period in the relationship. She slaps the drama down and *hearts*.
The Headband:
- Zuko has dreams. This kid.
- Sokka, "enemy birds". OH, SOKKA. NEVER STOP BEING YOU.
- AND THE NEW CLOTHES. They all look so cool, and Katara looks so pretty. "Stay flaming!" OH, FIRE NATION Aang!!
- Yes, Zuko, visit your uncle and it hurts. The non-reaction from Iroh. Ouch. This kid.
- Aang also learns who writes the history books of the world. The winners, hun, and here the winners are the Fire Nation.
- "You're so beautiful when you hate the world." LMAO. OKAY, OFFICIALLY, cutest canon couple on the show. "I don't hate you, (too)". *hearts* The Mai giving that bitchtastic look at Azula, because she ruined the moment, because Azula is bitchtastic and AWESOME. "Go help Ty Lee with her braid." Oh, Azula.
- I can't believe this ep is turning into the "Footloose" ep of the show and showing how the Fire Nation turns into obedient little followers and teaches the kids nothing that will allow them to think for themselves. I guess out of all the options they could have gone with to represent that, "Footloose" was the best/amusing/easier for kids to relate too.
- See, Zuko, even though you're back where you want to be, you know you're family is Iroh. Embrace this.
- Katara and Aang using the bending moves to dance and yes, it's cute. Sue me, I can't help it, they're sweet and hug all the time and are such good friend. They're cute. Mai and Zuko are still awesomer, because they're cute AND snark.
- Zuko, pulling a page from the Azula hand book of badassary. It's always good to have an insurance policy.
The Painted Lady:
- Toph, owning five seconds in. *is awesome*
- Ah, pollution! Thanks to the big corporation Fire Nation. They even suck on their own turf.
- I love Katara, you know she's going to help more. And she does and she's fantastic.
- Oh, Sokka, you just gave your sister a Bad Idea.
- Secret Hero Katara is AWESOME. (She and Zuko could totally have Secret Hero Club. Painted Lady and Blue spirit, righting wrongs, making a difference. You know after Katara teaches Zuko a few rules about what constitutes as Wrongs.)
- Sokka, having a heart! *HEARTS SHOW* I never thought otherwise, but it was a cute moment and I love these siblings, this team and spooky noises and "magic" FTW.
Sokka's Master:
(First yay for Sokka episode, he deserves some love too.)
- I kinda adore Toph.
- OH, SOKKA. He's normally really okay with being around such powerful people, but of course it will get to him sometimes. He's human. *hugs*
- IROH. *SQUEES* He's just that awesome, people. Just that awesome. *approves*
- They miss Sokka's presence! They're cute missing their Idea Guy and Map Reader and Jokes Dude. And Katara can't tell a joke and I love these kids.
- I love Sokka having a master, he really needed someone to be his mentor too. I like that they don't forget Sokka in this show. He gets his moments and he makes a difference. I love that with him it's not all about skill, it's about thinking, about creative thinking, about adapting to his situation. (He makes the butler CRY. Sokka, never change!) I love that the master still taught him even knowing he wasn't Fire Nation. This teacher rocks.
Aww, sweetie, you messed up in a special way and made himself a meteor sword!! And the others need him . *hearts*
- And back to Iroh. WHO IS AWESOME and is totally playing the gaurds and got himself a Rocky body, because Iroh wins at awesome in this ep.
- I love that this ep was about the two comic reliefs and showing how they're so much more than the Tea Loving Uncle and Meat And Sarcasm Sokka. Iroh has always been portrayed as a powerful warrior, but the majority of the time he's the comic relief of the Fire Nation characters, but here we're reminded why he's the Dragon of The West.
Sokka, well, he needed to have character episode and it was done very nicely. Not to mention they're not part of the SAME SECRET CLUB. WHITE LOTUS POWER FTW.
The Beach:
- Okay what more can I say about this episode beside TEAM FIRE NATION RULES. They're forced on vacation and they don't want to and it's awesome.
- Mai covering Zuko's eyes! Hee! And they hate the world together and it's cute.
- The volleyball game was great. They're so great and evil I'm not surprised at all.
- Azula! Honey! You have awkward social skills! You know this makes me love you more, because you totally try and fail and still manage to be awesome while failing and *many hearts*. Also Azula/Ty Lee = BFF love! Ty Lee is so on Azula's fan club and they hug because while everyone is really really scared of Azula, Mai and Ty Lee aren't (as much, because *everyone* is afraid of Azula) and they let her know. These girls are awesome.
- "Cranky girlfriend!" OH, ZUKO. It almost sounds like a term of endearment.
No don't break up! Mai's awesome and you two are snarky and cute together!
- Oh, yes, Zuko and Azula having a small but kinda nice sibling moment. Re their mother: Azula, of course you cared. *huggles* The camp fire was a really good scene. Everyone got their moment/rant, everyone showed their flaws and weakness, Azula the only one keeping it close to the best and I don't really even think she could let go like the others did. The closest she got was one sentence about her mother, and there was hurt there that she quickly shut down, I wanted to hug them all.
Then of course they go and be a little gang of badassery. Team Fire Nation, ILY.
- Back on Team Avatar, they had their own beach day, but it was less dramatic than the other if you don't count the bounty hunter that Zuko sent after them trying to kill them. *eg*
The Avatar and the Firelord:
This is quick one because I was dropping off here.
- I think the main point of this episode was: SOZIN NEEDED A COOKIE. Really, it was. Even Zuko wanted the epilogue to those scrolls. The story of the Avatar was done really well, I like how normal Roku was before he found out he was the Avatar, and after too, actually. Also they didn't make it about Sozin wanting or being jealous that his friend was the Avatar, and that it wasn't about The Girl. That made me really happy. Having the girl being the reason for best friend to go against each other is really just old and go show for not going there.
It was about power and wanting more, which isn't that what every overlord wants?
The the reveal that on his mother's side Zuko (and Azula, granted they never said, but siblings... DUH.) were related to Roku was slightly surprising, but not by much. (Okay, honestly, part of me thinks it's a bit contrived, because part of me would have just preferred for Zuko to be conflicted because he was conflicted not because "good and evil have always been at war in him", still, good twist for his character.)
Back to s3!
