A little background first. My mom and I were watching "Funny Girl" on TCM; musicals will often win out when there is little else on, and Barbra Streisand has always been and will likely always be one of my absolute favorite performers. So, anyway, often when I'm watching something, I'll Google an actor (this time around, Omar Sharif, who plays Barbra's husband in the film) and then I'll often just jump around Wikipedia and such learning new things wherever I go. I do have a slight problem just sitting and watching things, so I usually do the above or something similar, like mess with people on the forum. (I got told to leave someone alone because I was, well, doing what you do on a board and discuss things. Some people....)
Anyway, Funny Girl ends, and Gypsy was on next, so we stayed on the channel and watched the previews for upcoming shows and films. Well, Mickey Rooney came up, and I instantly started thinking of this movie from the 80s. It's just a sappy, overwrought Christmas flick with a very young Scott Grimes and snow and a little bit of magic and redemption in it. In other words, the exact kind of thing I love to watch at Christmas. It's just sweet and simple and I remember absolutely LOVING it.
Suffice it to say, I haven't seen it in literally decades, but I can still remember scenes, like the white Christmas tree, Scott's parents looking for him, Mickey Rooney dying in a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park on like Christmas Eve or morning. I can't remember exactly WHY Mickey and Scott were in New York City, I just remember loving it.
Every year, I scour the guides on our cable systems, but it never gets shown, which doesn't surprise me. I always look though. This year, we've turned off our premium channels to save some $$, and we're going to set up Netflix on the Wii we bought recently so we still have access to movies and television shows. I'm thinking, maybe Netflix will have this film, but I need the name!
Anyway, so, I think of this film, and I finally think of it while I have my computer near by. So, I go back to Wikipedia to see if I can find the name of this flick, which happens to be It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, which happens to be one of my favorite carols. Then I Google the title to see if it will pop up anywhere, like IMDB. And it does. And that's when I started laughing so hard I nearly dropped my laptop off my lap.
Now, I make this joke about how everything in my life these days seems to tie-in somehow to NCIS. It's a joke, obviously. There have been a few things that have come up that have somehow been connected to NCIS, some rather surprising and random, but it's happened, and it always just makes me giggle. It's the way my mind works to: I often find ways to connect things I love to other things I love, and sometimes things just work out right in that arena. But this? This is funny as shit.
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear? This random little movie from 1984 that I remember so clearly (for me) after probably more than 2 decades, that I've only seen a couple of times? That I hope I can find on Netflix? Yeah, it's written by FRANK FUCKING CARDEA AND GEORGE FUCKING SCHENCK!!! I swear on my parents' good names, really??? Now, I HAVE to find it online or Netflix.
