He couldn't stop his hand from touching Toby's skin; not even with his father's voice spitting out 'fucking faggot' in the back of his mind.

“Elliot,” Toby breathed as those strong, but gentle hands caressed his face and his throat. “Please, stop. Don’t do this if you’ll only regret it later.”

“I’ll regret it if I do stop. There’s no easy answer to this. Not everyone will be for us. Something is going to be lost and people will be hurt. I just don’t want that loss to be you and I don‘t want you hurt, Toby. I just couldn’t handle that.”

“Then, kiss me like you mean it,” Toby almost ordered, his eyes staring into Elliot’s.

Elliot wasn’t sure how to kiss Toby. He just hadn’t kissed many people: Kathy, Dani and some woman he met at O’Malley’s when he’d had too much to drink. But, Elliot wanted to kiss Toby and never stop.

“It’s okay, baby,” Toby told him, pulling Elliot’s face close to his. He knew that this was unfamiliar territory for the detective.

Baby. The endearment made Elliot Stabler smile and he moved in for his first taste of Tobias Beecher. Their lips touched like they’d known each other all their lives, tongues sliding against the other. As the kiss deepened, his father’s specter faded, then vanished and Elliot’s hands gripped Toby’s slender waist before sliding up his sides.

Toby’s hands weren’t idle either. They were getting to know Elliot, too; curious fingers working beneath the man’s shirt, his suit jacket long ago tossed to the floor. Warm, tight and smooth. “You feel so good,” Toby whispered against Elliot’s lips. “Tell me what you want, baby.”

“Just you. All I want is you.” Elliot declared, wrapping Toby into his arms tightly, his face rubbing against Tobias’ soft hair.

“I’m glad because you’d have a devil of a time trying to get rid of me now.” Toby laughed as he said it, but Elliot could feel the dampness on his shoulder where Toby’s cheek lay.

It had taken them some time to get to where they were just then. At their first meeting, Elliot called Toby ‘a lowlife skel with money.’ Of course, Toby fired back at him. Being a lawyer and a graduate of the Oswald Correctional Facility made him more than capable of defending himself against a ‘loud-mouth SVU detective one step below the Cro-Magnon Man(even if he was hot as hell, the prick!).

“What are you laughing about?” Elliot asked, shaking him playfully.

“I was just remembering the day we met. You were really mean to me.”

“Yeah, I was,” Elliot laughed, remembering. “But you didn’t seem to care. You grinned wildly at me and told me to kiss your swastika. I thought you were a Nazi or something. That alone made me want to pop you one.”

“But you were better our next meeting (not by much, though). What made you less irritable?” Toby lifted his face to look into those eyes that always took his breath away.

“I…read…some of your file and it gave me a better perspective. I was damn relieved to know you weren’t a Nazi. My last run-in with one left me shot and in a cast.” Elliot paused before continuing, “Also, I realized that you’d been through alot… More than you deserved and…”

“That’s okay, El. You still were a bastard.” Toby told him, his smile testifying he’d long gotten over it.

“So were you, Counselor.”

“What can I say--That was my way of flirting with you.”

You need to work on your technique.”

“Look who’s talking!”

“Two peas in a pod, so to speak,” Elliot teased. Then he swore under his breath when his cell phone went off, reluctantly releasing Toby to answer. “Stabler.”

He listened, frown growing by the minute. “Are they sure? Yeah, yeah… Give me twenty minutes and I’ll meet you there. Bye, Liv. Damn,” Elliot swore again.

“What’s wrong?”

“A case we’ve been working for over a year. A serial rapist has resurfaced; a real vicious son-of-a-bitch.”

“I’m so sorry.”

“Yeah,” he breathed out. His eyes said it all, though. He hated this for the newest victim, but he also hated to have to leave Toby. “I don’t know how long I’ll be or if I can come back tonight.”

“It’s okay. Just be careful and call me when you can.” Toby smiled, but he hated to see Elliot go, too.

“I will call you as soon as I can. There’s so much I want to say, you know.”

“I know--Me, too.” They stood close, staring into each other’s eyes until Toby stepped back. “Go, Elliot before I lock you into a room or something,” and gently pushed the man towards the door.

“That’s your idea of a threat?” Elliot quipped, picking up his jacket off the hardwood floors. As he got to the front door, he turned quickly and grabbed Tobias and kissed him hard and deeply, making Toby (and himself) weak in the knees.

“That’s to hold me ’til next time.” Then Elliot looked uncertain and maybe a bit scared before he blurted out, “I love you, you know that, right?”

“I didn’t, but I do now.” Toby’s face beamed brightly, making Elliot smile, too. “I love you, too.”

“Good. I gotta go. Bye, baby.” Elliot was so happy as he waved goodbye and got into his car. He smiled all the way to the hospital where Olivia and their victim were waiting.

Before he got out of the sedan, he made a promise, “I’ll make this work, Toby. It will be different this time and you can count on that.” The first part was for Toby; however, Elliot realized the last part was more for him.

“Hey, Elliot--This way.” Olivia’s smooth tones met him as he got off of the elevator. “You alright, partner?” She asked, concerned.

“I’m great, Olivia.” He said, smiling happily.

She believed him and smiled back. “Tell me,” Olivia inquired, smiling back.

“Later, Okay?”

“Okay. Let’s get her statement so that we can finally get that piece of shit off the streets.”

“Damn straight. After you.”
