Summary: Nino has an identical twin and it took Arashi the hard way to find out.

Nino has a twin. They didn’t know about it at first and it surfaced somewhat suddenly.

“Is this world that witty?!” was the way Aiba took it after his pupils dilated, his pulse getting more rapid and his heart palpitated. “Nino has a twin? How come he never tells us?”

“Maybe he didn’t think it was necessary” Ohno said casually. “You’re his friend longer than any of us. How come you never knew” Ohno made a few good points which made Aiba wonder the possibility of Ohno having a twin too. That huge ‘On’ and ‘Off’ gap Ohno has can be explain by that one little-ok, probably not so little-confession. The Sleepy Ohno. The Dancing Ohno. The Acting Ohno. The Fishing Ohno. Somehow Aiba’s world will definitely make more sense that way. However Ohno is not the one that has a twin now.

Nino is.

Aiba and Ohno never talks about it since then because, one, they wasn’t sure about the relationship Nino has with his twin. Two, the way Ohno found out about it made them shiver to the core of their bones.

***

Ohno was just walking around the street; it was his first time ever in that district. So he wanted to try every single thing. Ohno walked into one shop to another, he was just walking carelessly to any store that attracted his attention. Then there was this huge and fancy place that looked so interesting from outside, naturally, without a second thought he walked in.

He regretted it after only half a second in.

A drag queen greeted him with his (or her) long and slander fingers, which went from a shook at his hand, his shoulder and gradually at the small of his back. Ohno got caught up and it was one of the moments when he wished he’s the kind of person who could say ‘no!’ while screaming and kicking to his way out.

“You deserve a very nice treat” he said while leading Ohno to a special sit. Ohno mumbled ‘I just want an orange juice and privacy’ but was ignored.

Then, as though the world was spinning in another direction Nino came out. As a Queen.

Nino was wearing a thick make-up. Gold lipsticks to be match with his-amazingly-fitting orange dress. His hair was still short, but pinned to the side with-of course, matching-golden hair-pins.

He was so cute. Ohno was scared to death.

Ohno didn’t know what to do. He wanted to laugh and cry at the same time-a bizarre feeling he had never felt in his life. He blushed tremendously and stood up. “Nino!” he whispered, as he pulled him by the forearm. “Wha-whe-woo…?” Words failed him so badly and never in his life had he felt so crushed and devastated for not having words in his mouth. He took a deep breath. “Ninomiya Kazunari!” was all that he managed to say.

“Oh” Nino-queen laughed afterwards. “You must have mistaken me for my twin. I’m not Ninomiya Kazunari, I’m Ninomiya Kazushi.” He said cheerily. He had an expression on his face that Ohno had never seen on Nino. Ohno’s heart was laughing so hard, but his mouth was just making weird noises.

“Twin?” Ohno asked, rather timidly.

“Yes, but we had been living separately for so long”

Ohno’s head was spinning. He knew his face was twitching, making many different and unusual expressions within seconds. He wondered if he was having a panic attack or even a stroke.

“Nino knows about you working here?” he asked, mildly proud that he was actually asking questions that made sense.

“We met a few times recently. So I guess he does” Kazushi said, while pulling his dress up by front of his chest.

No, Ohno thought. He wished... So many times within that five minute conversation he had wished that Kazushi was joking. He was hoping that Kazushi is Nino, making a stupid prank at him because he ruined Nino’s high score on his DS just yesterday. ‘Nice one!’ he’ll say and never ever-for eternity-touches Nino’s DS ever, again.

Then they went parted ways.

Ohno had nightmares that night.

***

Sho only found out when he went shopping on his off days on this one fated day. He was in a shop when he saw Nino, wearing a bright purple t-shirt with glittery writings and a flowery short.

“What’s with your clothe?” he asked while making his way to Nino, genuinely excited to see one of his band mates on his day off. “Did someone rob you?”

“No” Nino said frowning. “It is mine” he said. “Is it that bad?”

“No. I mean. I’ve never seen you wear anything like this” Sho said, he didn’t know why the atmosphere was unusually intense. “Something you don’t usually wear…”

“Well, I only wear clothe outside of my house after all, inside the house I don’t wear anything.”

Oh, that means Nino is naked most of the time? Since he doesn’t go out that much on his day off, Sho thought, rather lightly. “SHH!” Sho then panicked and covers Nino’s mouth; of course it was useless because Nino already said it all. “They were eavesdropping! If they know that you’re naked at home, I don’t-“

Sho could feel Nino’s smile in his palm. “I never knew you care this much about me”

If his heart could say something it was probably ‘Doki!’, but his stomach threw up a bit of breakfast in his throat that made his eyes water. Of course Nino had said something like that to him before, repeatedly. In so much more lovey-dovey mode even. He would be accustomed to it by now because surely he cares a lot about Nino.

But Nino’s face… the expression Nino had on his face was an expression Sho had never seen before and he felt as though he regretted seeing it because he could never look at Nino the same ever again.

“Are you drunk?” Sho asked, resorting to the most relevant reasoning. He prayed so hard that Nino would say ‘Yes’. ‘A little’, ‘A bit’ Or even ‘someone did drugged me on my way here.’

“No. Why? Do you want to go somewhere and become drunk now?”

“No.” It’s ten in the morning! Sho was really panicking by now. If anything his motherly switch was definitely turned on. He wanted to ask Nino so many questions regarding his health, his physical health, his mental health, his life, his love life, his sex life, Sho just didn’t care. He wants Nino to make sense. Nino’s health and life was probably at stake.

Suddenly out of that store’s window, he saw Nino in the street.

On the contrary, probably he should have his health checked first.

“Why is there two of you, Nino?”

Nino chuckled pleasantly. Sho almost wanted to cry. “I think you’ve mistaken me with Kazunari. I’m Kazushi”

“KAZUSHI?!” Sho said in high pitch. “Who? A clone?” he asked while wondering so much why the Keio University had let him graduate when he couldn’t even say anything that make sense. “Who?” he asked again.

“I’m Nino’s twin brother. We look so much alike don’t we?”

Sho forced a polite smile. He forced a little more of polite conversation before taking his leave.

He sort of stumbled out of the store rather unsteadily and walked to the street to see the other Ninomiya. It was probably the real Ninomiya. His Ninomiya.

Nino was wearing his usual ordinary clothe that wasn’t flowery and a cap that was so Nino-like. However Nino didn’t notice Sho there.

On other circumstances, Sho would have run towards Nino in the most excited way. He would say ‘Hi!’ at the top of his lungs and bother Nino probably in any way possible. Sho loves to see his band mates on his off days.

But that day, he felt a little dizzy, so Sho left without even trying to meet Nino’s eye.

Sho must have imagined himself crying in the shower, he really couldn’t tell. The water was hard on his face after all.

Aiba tried to meet Kazushi in person.

He didn’t want to at first, because a twin Nino should probably be as bratty. But Aiba became so intrigue when he saw the way Sho reacted after he knew about Nino’s twin. Sho couldn’t look at Nino in the eyes for over a month. He couldn’t talk to Nino without fumbling his words or getting his face pale and his palms sweaty.

Nino was worried about Sho and did ask around, but neither Ohno nor Aiba wanted to say anything. Especially Ohno who couldn’t keep a straight face while looking at Nino. But Nino was usually persistent, so he was clingy to Ohno a lot more than usual-probably even more than necessary.

Then Ohno threatened him.

Ohno told him-rather in a very un-Ohno-like serious way-that he would never let Nino touches his butt again if Nino wouldn’t stop asking. And Ohno’s butt meant so much to Nino that he stopped right away.

Ohno was threatening Nino and Aiba knew that there was something that witty about this world.

Kazushi was becoming so interesting.

Aiba broke into a polite laughing fit when he first saw him. Well, Nino was wearing a pink dress after all. “Kazushi?” he asked while smiling.

“Yes” he answered.

Kazushi’s personality was nothing like Nino but something about him was like Nino after all. He admitted he had few good laughs just looking at Sho’s and Ohno’s pale face when they first saw him.

However Kazushi did do a few things that Nino wouldn’t do usually; finishing his food, tapping lightly at his lips after his meal, order an avocado juice and eat desserts. Aiba was wishing so bad that he has a camera with him so that he could repeat those moments over and over again.

“Doesn’t it bother you?” Aiba managed to ask.

“Of course not. I don’t really live close to Nino and Nino has such fine image that people who mistaken me for Nino is really kind to me.”

Aiba told Kazushi that he’s so relieved to hear that.

Aiba met Nino the next day, “I love you so much more every day, have I ever told you that?” Aiba said to Nino while they were eating lunch. Nino told him that he should and that it is good for Aiba’s health.

While thinking about his lung, his painful abdomen because he was laughing too much and the way he almost drove over a lady when he saw how Kazushi was batting eyelashes at him.

Aiba couldn’t help but wondered if that was even true.

Matsumoto saw Nino in the crowd while he was doing his solo performance at their concert.

He didn’t see him at first, but when he was hanging few feet off the ground he caught the glimpse of Nino. Matsumoto was in a real shock state that he forgot to dodge his virtual burning sun (the fans said ‘Ahh~’ in unison). But as a professional he danced and singed smoothly regardless the fact that he thought he must have gone a little crazy or that what he just saw was Nino’s ghost or even an optic illusion. Probably he just misses Nino that much. Could Nino be slacking off and decided to be an Arashi’s fan instead?

But then Nino came out of back stage with the others. He waved it all off and blamed it to the bad lighting.

Matsumoto almost dropped the flask he was holding when he saw Nino walking alone at the side of the road. They were on their way to their hotel and Jun was the only one awake.

What’s this?! He panicked.

“Nino!” He said while turning around in his seat and looking at Nino, who was sleeping at the back seat with Ohno. He woke up four other members and made the driver stepped into an emergency break.

“What?” Nino asked looking at Jun with his eyes half opened.

“I-I-think-“Jun blinked. “-I need to go pee” Jun finished while quickly sliding his door and making his way out.

Jun came back to their car with half of his t-shirt drench and a look as though he just came out from a bad shower.

***

“Sho”

Jun walked into Sho’s room rather mechanically at midnight, he tried to sleep but just couldn’t. He couldn’t even eat or look in the mirror without thinking he’ll end up seeing Nino’s reflection on it. “Sho” he said again that made Sho looked up from the papers he was reading.

“Sho-kun”

“I’m listening” he said, finally putting away his reading materials.

Jun sat down in front of Sho, with a rather stiff expression. “Sho…” Jun said again but it sounded like a sigh more than anything. “Sho, I think there’s something wrong with me”

“What’s wrong?”

“I think I need my eyes check. Probably new contact lenses” Then the image of Nino being in two places at once made him swallowed. “Probably some new eyes”

“What are you talking about?” Sho laughed a little. “It is so weird of you panicking at me like this”

“I think-“it was so hard of Jun to say it out loud. He sounded crazy even to himself. “I think I just saw two Nino-“

“Ah” Sho suddenly said, rather delightfully. Which made Jun considered about throwing Sho’s drink to Sho’s face, because he was seriously terrified about the fact of seeing two Nino. How could Sho take it so lightly?

“You’re having ‘Kazushi Syndrome’ aren’t you?”

“Kazushi Syndrome?”

“That’s what we’re calling it now. Heart racing, stomach churning, feeling as though you’re losing your mind and even crying, but that depends on how bad the syndrome gets to you. Mine…was probably the worst.”

“You’re still not making sense. I just saw two Nino. How can that happen?”

“Through conception I guess.”

“What the--That’s it. I’m going to Aiba for consultation. He probably will not make that much sense like you do now, but at least he is still Aiba” He would have ran off to Ohno if he wasn’t too horrified about the risk of running into Nino too, which he almost definitely sure he would.

“Ok, Jun. Sorry.” Sho laughed a little bit more. “The thing is…The truth is…This world is-“

Jun was already out of Sho’s room before he could finish his sentence.

Sho couldn’t help but snorted gleefully and thinking about apologizing tomorrow at breakfast.

Kazushi Syndrome is actually a good laugh when you’re not the one who’s having it.

“Poor baby” Sho said adoringly.

Matsumoto’s Kazushi Syndrome was only cured when he gave all other three a silent treatment.

It took them six months after meeting Kazushi before finally confronting Nino about it. They doubted the decision at first, but they realized that knowing everything about Nino is compulsory for a good-stuttering free-relationship and the other reason being that they were scared that Nino probably has few other identical twins in his sleeves that he’s not telling.

“Oh. So you guys have met him?” Nino said smiling. “That’s good news”

“Nino.” Ohno said solemnly. “I thought you love me”

“Of course I do” Nino said, while reaching out to touch Ohno’s chin.

“Then how come we never knew about this?” Jun asked before sipping his coffee.

“It’s not like I’m trying to keep a secret or anything, I just don’t want to make a fuss about it. Kazushi looks exactly like me. But it doesn’t mean that he’s me-“

“We know” Sho said; his voice came out rather apprehensively.

“It just-it doesn’t mean that he wants the same thing that I have”

“You mean, if the world knows about this, Johnny will be all over the subject and the fans will be chanting ‘Ninomiya Comedy Duo!! Ninomiya Comedy Duo!!” Aiba said before he went into a giggle fit, which made some stupid smiles appeared on everyone else’s face.

“Not exactly like that-“

“No. Exactly like that” Jun said smiling.

They let Nino off the hook soon enough. Without having to say much they understood deep enough.

Ninomiya Kazunari loves them for that.

“Where’s the present for my birthday?” Aiba asked one fateful day.

“Why are you claiming? Aren’t you embarrassed?” Nino replied casually.

“You’re the only one who hasn’t given me any. Everybody else already did. And tomorrow is already Sho-chan’s birthday”

“I’m not giving you because you didn’t give me any on my birthday”

“That’s not true! I gave you a very expansive game collection with limited edition of-“

Aiba paused.

Nino looked amused. “Are you sure you gave it to me?”

Well, Nino was batting his eyelashes at him and he took it as ‘thank you’ sign.

“KAZUSHI!!” Aiba said while striding towards the door.

“Leave it.” Nino laughed “It’s his birthday too”

The world is definitely that witty.
