j'taime paris!

so yesterday we went to paris for the day and it was amazing. we started out at notre dame. which was great, i'd never been in a cathedral like that before and of course, i mean, come on its notre dame. it was amazing, just coming out of the subway and crossing the seine to get to it, it was amazing, there aren't words. we listened to a little bit of a choir sing too and just a few voices filled the entire church, amazing. then we went to eat and we walked down all these little side streets to find real authentic french people and food and we found this one little sandwich shop on lombard. we had jambon and fromage sandwiches, i learned some french words by the way. lol. and a raspberry tart which was incredible. the food was unbelievable, its a ham and cheese sandwich but its amazing. i'm going to try to stop using that word.

then we had fun just getting lost and going to shops and markets, luke bought some olives at one. we then went to the arc de triumph (sp?) and paid to go to the top. the view was incredible. panoramic. all of paris was laid out before us, and it is a huge city, we barely left zone one but you could see to the very outskirts of paris. if anyone goes, i recommend that view. wow. we saw the eiffel tower from the arc and decided it wasn't too far and we could just walk it. turns out we are bad with depth perseption because it was really 3 miles away. i asked a guy about a mile out and he said in a frenchy french accent "you go straight straight straight straight and you might come across some big tower." but eiffel was cool, we jetted quickly though because it started to rain. took the metro to the louvre, stayed in there for about 21/2 hours, we were so exhausted from that walk, but i got to see a lot of paintings that i absolutely love. the mona lisa was not that impressive and you have to stand so far from it, i'd rather look at in on a slide for all that word. geez. but i got to see david's oath of the horatii which was huge and no one seemed to have a clue what it was. it was amazing. it hit me where i was at that point. then we ate dinner at another side street bar where the lady had one customer who spoke a little english and he helped us order our wine. which was the best wine i've ever had in my life. so smooth and rich in flavor. we have no clue what we're missing. i should have bought a bottle i found that was from 1997 and was 3 euro. dumb me. and the lady made us sandwiches with this creamy butter. i dont know how i'll live without those sandwiches now. french food is the best so far.

then we got some crapes, the one meg got early in the day was nothing compared to the one we got later, we just figured the first guy didn't really know how to make them. on our way to meet up with my cousin and meg and luke's parents we actually got lost, took the wrong train and headed off the subway map we had. so we almost missed the train home. but we made it on time, thankfully, just in time. adventures in paris i'll say. i loved the city, and i learned to love "parlevous engless?" (sp?) and sorties which means exit and soldes which i think means sale. lol and of course fromage and jambon and vins, and bonjour. paris so far is definitely one of my favorite cities and i wish i was spending more time there. it was great going places where they dont speak any english, thats where we tried to eat and walk around, and the only two things that were bad was the gard de nord spelled like urine, really bad in some areas and it was really expensive to go to the bathroom. if you're ever in paris, make sure you cheat and get a code at starbucks or have a euro in change for the public water closets. but seriously, i can't say much bad about paris except for that. even the people who didn't speak english were helpful when we were lost, and the people were beautiful, and they all look really trendy, i know katie will fit in with them. there were some rude and arrogant ones, but hey, they're everywhere. except they curse you out in a language you dont know so you dont really care. time for bed. thats all for now. :D more london entries coming up.
