I had a realisation today. I've been fretting for months about not being a position to go an volunteer in Calais or Greece for a more substantial amount of time. I haven't even been able to take a hugely active role in the local refugee solidarity movement, other than collecting stuff for drop offs at the camps or hosting refugees in our home.

Today I started work on a potentially very significant bid on an international development topic very close to my heart. ALL of the work I do, every single day, is about international development research. I'm using my best skills, knowledges, practices, and understandings every single day to make the kind of difference I want to make in the world. Yes, I get paid for it, because some of my skills, knowledges, practices and understandings are not all that common, but I feel like a big weight has been lifted.
