It was snowing tonight. Travel 40 mph. Home 60 miles away. Arrive around 1:30 am to find it is 50 in the house and 48 in the basement.
I think that I am out of oil.
Discover that the metal stick stops above the E line, and not below or as hoping within it. Call 24 hour service. Says, trucks not going out till Monday with the snow. 48 won't freeze pipes. Shouldn't dip lower tonight. (Thankfully, didn't happen last night when was -5.) They can deliver 10 gallons and restart the furnace at this time. I ask them if it is something that I can do. Yes, and receive instructions on what need to do.
So, drive 20 miles to Fultonville - 24 hour truck stop. 36.00 for (2) 5 gallon diesel containers. 40.00 for fuel (3.94/gal.). 20 miles back, after stopping at the Dunkin Donuts. I needed fuel also. heh
Bleed fuel line as described to me and as confirmed on the internet. After fill coffee can 2/3rds full, mostly steady stream, so tighten bleeder, and furnace starts. :) Amazingly, no mess encountered. I have 1/4 inch tubing, and a coffee can from the outer porch thanks to the previous owner being a smoker. Checked and no leak under bleeder valve.
Oil service said if call on Monday, will get a delivery that day. Only get minimum delivery as heating oil is expensive when you have to get 150 gallons at 3.18/gal (last time). Adding another 10 gallons this evening after return from Kidz Expo, and keeping thermostat down. Sweaters, I own. Diesel, I don't.
