"Desire may lead to suffering,
but it is in suffering that one can learn most about oneself.
And when you actually do your project,
you may just notice that the key to success was,
in fact, to be in the moment, free of desire."
-Mike Call (Bouldering in the Shawangunks)

i was supposed to go to coopers rock again this past weekend, but the weather looked kinda iffy (40% chance of isolated thunder storms). so instead of tempting my chances for a day trip, i went with another friend for a weekend trip up north at the gunks (less than 20% chance of rain)! and i'm glad i went because i got to met a bunch of new cool people, see a bunch of climbs that i hadn't seen before AND finished two of my projects! almost finished another, but i have to save that as an excuse to keep coming back, right?

one of my projects (last photo after the cut), Village Idiot (V7) was one that i had seen and attempted since august of 2008, and i've been making steady progress since. but the last two trips i've gone, i'd cruised through the bottom section and could not make the very last move before getting the top. the fall from the top is potentially dangerous for the climber as well as the spotter since the landing is on a ledge. well, i would try to to get the last move staticly, but i would still come up short. way short. after wussing out on a couple attempts, i realized that i just had to go for it (and by "go," i meant "jump"). i finally got it!

anyways, here are a couple photos from this weekend.
