the wedding

We just got back from the wedding celebrations. The great thing about this wedding is that I was invited. When my lousy sister got married, she did not invite my gf. My family is a little mad. Disapproval and distance are the reflex actions for anything that doesn't fit their ideals. The other great thing about today's wedding is that I was seated at the VIP table with the bride and groom and their families. I was also in the family photo this morning. It felt really great to be accepted just the same as the other daughter-in-law. I was not included in the tea ceremony, but that's OK and anyway my gf said she felt shy having to accept tea from her sister and now-brother-in-law. Anyway, this was my first time sitting at the VIP table with a bride and groom because at my sister's wedding the VIP table was only for old people. So this is the coolest wedding banquet I've attended.

I'm very happy and thankful that my gf's family likes me and accepts me. Her brother and sister acknowledge me as her partner. Her brother invited me to his wedding a couple of years ago, but I could not attend because I was not in the country. Her parents don't ask questions or stick their nose into our relationship. I don't know how they perceive it, but they treat me well and don't behave strange or awkward towards me. My family (those who know about my gf) mostly pretend my gf doesn't exist. Only one cousin, one aunt regularly ask after her. My sister doesn't ask about her much but she has sent my gf Christmas presents in the last couple of years.
