Earlier I was at the library waiting at the checkout/reserve desk and there was a group of about 4 (I'm assuming freshman) girls waiting to checkout some dvds, one of which was CLUELESS.
Girl 1: Did you know that he teaches here?
Girl 2: Really? Who is he?
[Because they're holding CLUELESS, I assume the girl has misidentified Paul Rudd - a member of the theatre faculty here - as Paul-Rudd-the-famous-super-hot-actor and the step-brother in CLUELESS who has nothing to do with Sarah Lawrence, but I didn't hear the beginning of their conversation, so I don't know for sure]
Girl 1: Oh, you know...he's been in [movies that either I haven't heard of or I can't hear what she's saying]
Girl 3: Wow, that's so cool! What does he teach here?
Girl 1: Theatre.
Me (in my head): Oh shit.
One of the girls: How did you find that out?
Girl 1: My mom's friend's cousin heard it somewhere and told my mom! I couldn't believe it when she told me! I was so excited!
Me (still in my head): Oh man. Should I do it? I gotta do it.
[the girls keep talking about it until finally I turn around]
Me: Excuse me? Who are you talking about that teaches here?
Girls: Paul Rudd.
Me: The guy from CLUELESS? [they nod excitedly] Yeah...that's not the same guy.
[silent stares]
Girl 1: ...What do you mean?
Then I explained it as their faces all fell. I felt like I was telling a 3 year old there's no such thing as Santa Claus. How disappointing! I love stuff like that. Not crushing the spirits of 3 year olds, but with these girls, they were going to find out sooner or later anyway...I mine as well be the one who gets to see their faces when they find out. And imagine how much worse it would have been if it took a long time for them to find out and like, they were walking around campus every day looking for him! That would've been a total letdown to find out like, a year from now.
I wish THE Paul Rudd really taught here, though! He's a hunkosaurus-rex! I would've been a theatre-third all four years! Well..maybe just the first two until I got sick of all the theatre kids. God, they can be annoying!
Also, I just realized that Paul Rudd is the guy in my icon if you didn't know.
