Happy's Rec List - Edition the Second

Jul 10, 2012 23:05

So today is the second edition of my new Rec List. I'm told this isn't quite the usual format, but honestly, I don't care. I like what I'm doing, and I hope people will enjoy my reviews, and the fics I recommend. Another three fics today.

First up today is Of Spectrums and Spoons by atraphoenix,

Anonymous prompted "Natasha's autistic, and outside of those people who have read her medical file, Clint is the only person who knows. " and it is my opinion that Atraphoenix did an excellent job on the fill.

The fill is in no way angsty, in my opinion, although it could very easily have gone that way. About the first third of the fill is third person, Bruce's point of view, dealing with how he figured out Natasha's condition. Atraphoenix covered for us just enough of Natasha's routines and habits that we could make the same conclusions, and still believe in Natasha functioning as a Shield Agent of the highest standing, and more importantly, as an Avenger.

The next third of the piece deals with the secret meeting the Avengers have to figure out how to tell Natasha "We know and we don't care", as well as a few other plot points, such as Fury dealing with "The Council" finding out. Of course, as you can imagine, this doesn't go quite as planned. Still, it's very very good.

The fill wraps up with what I feel is a very touching scene between Clint, Thor, and Natasha, where Thor is trying to understand Natasha's condition, and what it's like to live with it, and Natasha and Clint are using Spoon Theory to teach him.

5/5, It's a good Fill. Wouldn't incorporate it into head-cannon, but I have it bookmarked, and would read it again.

Next up is Next-Of-Kin-Calls, and as you might guess from the title, warnings for character death.

Written by Anonymous, for Anonymous, this fill is written in a 6+1 style.

I have very few things to say about this, apart from it is excellent. The scenes are poignant, and the fill is in no way angsty, though it is terribly sad, as the very nature of the prompt would suggest. Each 1 of the 6+1 is treated as a separate AU piece - So we don't have a last man standing situation. In a word, I would say that this fill is beautiful.

5/5 - I have it bookmarked, although I doubt I shall re-read it often.

My final review for today is Discretionary Spending, by MidgetNazgul

The prompt is a combination of two very similar prompts here and here, both of which amount to "Tony likes to buy people things"

This fic is pure fluffy goodness. Tony buys the rest of the avengers things that they want. Combat Ready Lord of the Rings bows for clint, A pair of very expensive shoes for Natasha, and a fancy handheld ultrasound for Bruce, when he's off doing his Doctors without borders. It's amusing, fluffy crack, and it's just the right thing to counter the Feels left by the Next-Of-Kin.

5/5. I have it bookmarked, and I'll probably read it again.

Now, to those of you who have read this list, and mayhaps go on to read any of the fills that I have linked to, I would appreciate if you could leave me a comment, telling me what you thought of the fill. Once again, If there is anything in particular you would like me to review, leave me a message, and I'll see if I can get to it.

I hope you enjoy.
