It's been a very fun and busy summer so far. So busy in fact, I keep meaning to write down what's happened but always get sidetracked/happentrapped!
One night I was hanging with Mitch and Grady when my brother told me that Paul told him they needed another saxophonist in McMahon's jazz band for Cabaret. I was like "I'll totally do it." So on the Tuesday before Cabaret, I went into McMahon for second period and boy was it strange. It was the new band room, but I could still feel how the old one was. And It was crazy sitting down with some of those kids again (as well as some I'd never met, but had like seen playing with my brother or something). Also, they got Brajin to fill in on 2nd tenor, so it was like a straight up reunion! So I went in for a few rehearsals that week, got the songs pretty much down (I guess I am a lot better at reading music than I was three years ago), then I went to Cabaret on Thursday night. It was even weirderrr putting on that tuxedo and sitting up there with the band. I saw a bunch of other people in the audience I knew and could read the "what the fat" confusion on their faces explained as Mr. Secchi announced my and Brajin's reason for being there (empty seats cuz of the Japan trip). The concert went pretty well, and when the Chamber Singers had finished, their teacher said something about this being the seniors' last cabaret. And then I had to laugh to myself, thinking how my last cabaret was three years ago, and yet here I was playing at another one. Who says you can't go back again?
The next day, the McMahon jazz band was playing at Fox Run, and Mr. Secchi asked me to come along to that too, so I was like "Sure why not?" Let's go back to elementary school, too. We played the same songs (Yardbird Suite, Lament, Blue Rondo a la Turk) and demonstrated individual instruments to the kids. I brought my soprano, so all the saxes demonstrated, and then we played a full sax section irish jig, which was totally hat. Been years since anything like that went down.
So yeah, it was a really fun week...strange, and perhaps strangest of all is that is sort of felt right. After it was over, leaving Secchi's band, it was odd to suddenly have like...you know, memories from three years of college, summers, etc. Quite an odd experience. Oh yeah, and the new McMahon is so weird...like I get lost, and still can't fathom how the band room is in the same spot, but is now a floor above the cafeteria.
So after leaving high school, what else has gone down? I went out to eat at Outback one night with Mitch, Whitney, Lori, and Yvonne. Food was pretty good, but I'm used to Dog Team Tavern prime ribs, and this wasn't QUITE that, but still great nonetheless. And Mitch had what was apparently the best Filet mignon ever, he was flipping out so much ahha. After we went to Circuit City to play Fight Night (I kid you not) and then chongled at the new and improved Dunkin Donuts.
We went to the beach to play volleyball one time, and turns out it was a league night. We got there at like 7:30 waiting and they were like "what team are you?" and we're like "eee...uhh..eeee..ummm..." and they're like, "well it'll be done at 9:30, you sunk." So we stood around trying to think of what to play, and we finally agreed to Tom's pushing "Ball"--football on the beach using a volleyball. It was actually pretty fun, and I don't even really like football. Then we turned it into "Ultimate Ball," basically ultimate frisbee with a ball. The sand was actually pretty tough on the feet, and Mitch in fact totally opped his foot, keeping him from playing v-ball when that actually happened later on. In fact, few people did play then, it was 4 on 4, which was actually like perfect. Everything was covered, but like you had so much less confusion as to what you can hit/what's gonna happen then you do with like 5 or more people on a team. Plus, The game was enhanced with Tasha blasting "More than a Feeling" many, many times in a row and me and Steve singing "Don't Stop Believing" lyrics to it's melody haha.
The rest of that night was standing around, doing nothing, going to Taco bell and standing around, and going home and standing around. And sleeping.
We also played volleyball the other night, too, and that was awesome. We played with a bunch of guys from Venezuela who of course were really good and made us look bad. I was wearing a Superman shirt, and so was one of those guys, but I guess it was like the red kryptonite split-superman, and I was the one without the powers haha. But one guy on my team was like "Superman, Superman" and would set the ball up for me. That was great, and what was also great was how Ashley spoke Spanish to them, and as a result they like loved her and were basically hitting on her the whole night.
That same day was pretty busy, as I went sailing with Anna and Lori which was awesome. I love boats and stuff, and I love how Anna actually knows stuff cuz if it were up to me we'd totally crash and sink and whatnot. And then I went to see X-Men: The Last Stand with Parshva and Mitch. Great movie, and I won't ruin anything at all unlike some friggin jerks did for me. So while I'm on this subject, let's make something perfectly clear: Please, never, ever say anything about any movie I really want to see. Like AT ALL. DO NOT JOKE ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS OR DOESN'T HAPPEN OR COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAPPEN. Why? Because for some reason it will stick in my mind, and I will not forget it while watching the movie, so if you said something does or doesn't happen, I've already considered it, and then it's no longer a surprise if it does or doesn't happen For example, with this movie, a bunch of people sort of acted a certain way and said somethings, and maybe it wasn't much, but I sort of inferred something from that and it reallllly reallllly diminished possibly the greatest part of that movie, and I will be forever pissed that I was robbed of what could have possibly been the craziest movie experience of my life cuz people were d bags. So please, don't do that to me again.
And some other night I went to Lori's for Anna's return. We played some cards, went to buy chocolate or something at Shop Rite, where Parshva and I found all this "extreme" marketed food, and then came back and watched part of Superman II. "I've never seen garbage eat garbage before." hahhaha
I was at Mike's last night for some Secret of Mana, which has totally sunked the last two times we played, tho we actually got to a new hood this time. I fear that game will go unfinished this summer if it continues at this rate, which sunks cuz it was a fun game. Oh, but the other time after Secret of Mana fell apart, I played Biker Mice from Mars, which was a hat racing game. I always wanted to play it, and my brother really wanted to, so I'm glad I finally got to see it.
Memorial Day weekend was cool. I watched my brother in the parades and we had some cook outs. Hot dogs on the grill are so bomb. Oh yeah, and Mr. Secchi saw me and was like "Hey, get a uniform, I could use you today too" which I thought was funny. (P.S. Marching in parades sunked). Oh! And funny thing! Last night was the band banquet, and my brother won Marcher of the Year! Haha the tradition continues!! He was so excited, and it's so hat that he won that. My uncle was up for a cookout, and I showed him my progress on Maximum Carnage sets, and he gave me some tips and I also got him to carve me a sweet base with wheels for Carnage's handcart, so that'll probably be the most well-made prop in the movie.
I know I've forgotten some stuff, but basically in time not hanging with friends or like eating and stuff, I've been making sets and props for Maximum Carnage. It's really tough...look around your room? If you were making that in miniature, what would you have to do? Think of every little object, and then think how you need to make that. Yeah, it's hard as pop, but it's pretty fun. It just sunks cuz I start filming soon, and I only have a month to shoot. We'll see how that goes...
