No movie for young Hap.

I get that killing people with a cattle prod is awesome.  I understand the mightiness of Javier Bardum's bowl cut.  I don't, however, understand why people think No County For Old Men was the best film of 2007.  I'm not totally alone in this, but  I know I'm in the minority.

If this movie was made by anyone other than the Coens, who we have come to look for when needing minimal talking and slooooooowwwwwwww burning plots that have little resolution, no one would have enjoyed this film.  It is like sucking down a bitter and horrible tasting meal just because it came from El Bulli and we should just "appreciate such art."

I won't do it, and you can't make me.

The film itself looks like an episode of TJ Hooker.  I am sure that the 80's nostalgia is part of the charm, but I sat there for most of the film wondering what year it was due to lack of detail.  And as a huge fan of Asian films, I am fine with sad or ambiguous endings, but what I am not a fan of is characters with no definite personality other than "psycho" or "Texan."   Who are these people?  Why do I give a shit?  By the end of the movie I couldn't care less what happened to whom.

I am sure the book reads wonderfully, but as a movie it both bored me and frustrated me.  Underpopulated areas, people acting like morons, and bad lighting  doesn't make a great movie; it makes a damn waste of time.

Of course what do I know, I really enjoyed Cloverfield >:)
