Well... we replaced the motherboard, RAM, processor, video card, AND power supply... and still it was buggered. I'm reasonably sure the old motherboard was eating hard drives. I took it back to Memory Express and got a new one (I've learned the value of the additional warranty, thank goodness) and everything is peachy keen! So I didn't so much FIX her computer as help her buy a new one :P
She's got a pretty nice machine now... AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1gb of RAM, 250gb hdd... a whole mess of USB ports (with support for two more, frontside, when we replace her case sometime). I'm quite jealous!
I got XP and all the updates installed as of last night, so she's back up and running now. I just have to get the network running again (I hate networking XP and 2000... grrr) now.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything remains shiney with it... I hate dealing with hardware. Hence why I became a programmer and not a network specialist ;)
