best compliments i've received recently:

"You look like you've lost body fat... and gained muscle mass... like more than you had before... as in, you could walk right THROUGH this wall now!" ~Hannah

"Erin, when did you get those amazing legs!?" ~Tricia

"You're the only reason I like these guys." ~JVB, talking about Matchbox 20 (cuz we went to their concert together 3 years ago)

"I'm glad you're one of our teachers." ~one of my 2nd graders

on thursday, Justin and i went to a high ropes course in webberville with the msu outdoors club (most of whom ended up not showing up). the ropes course was WAY high, much higher than any of the ropes courses i've done before, but our instructor, Tom, was very motivating in a funny kind of way. we climbed around on the high ropes for an hour, then did a zipline to get to the ground, and it was SO scary for a *split* second, then it was awesome. then we climbed a tall rock wall, and when i was almost to the top, i thought i wasn't going to make it the rest of the way because my arms we SO tired and shaky. but i made it, then we ziplined back down to the ground. that zipline was way more violent because it started up higher. then we had a great spread of food, burgers, hummus, fruit, cookies, all kinds of stuff i never buy for myself. :)

at hockey on friday, we had around 20 people. it was quite fun, but i didn't do very well. it's hard when you're trying to be gentle with the newbies and still get back in the swing of playing. but i'm glad we have so many new people; i hope they stick with it. then we went over to brian's new place on milford and inagurated it as the replacement hockey house. there were about 10 of us, and we played flip cup out on the freezing cold back porch. but it was fun, and some great rules were made (spin around 3 times after you flip, put all your clothes on inside out). but this house is a nice, clean house, not one you can trash for a party, so i'm glad we also have tricia's house/barn/farm for use on occasion (like tournaments, yay!).

from saturday morning until sunday morning i did the izzone campout on munn field with pavel and his friend zach, which means that i will now be getting lower bowl tickets once again, woohoo! i thought i had my tent in my car, but i discovered that i did not, which meant we were tentless. but i had my sleeping bag, and pavel had a blanket, and i actually ended up getting TOO warm at some points during the night since i was wearing so many layers of clothes. it was neat to get to see tom izzo and the players up close like always. and at least it didn't rain (or snow).

this week i will be taking over some small part of teaching in my classroom. i'm not worried about this from the students' perspective, but i'm just worried that i will teach something not as well as my classroom teacher would teach it, and he will be upset/disappointed. which i know won't happen, since this guy is so easy going and go with the flow.

holy cow, 6 weeks til my marathon! the highlight of my running this week was that i ran a 3:28 half-mile (somewhere in an 8 mile work-out). i was surprised i could go that fast, as that would give me a 6:56 mile time. i think i need to time another mile sometime, like on the track. i can't wait for the dino dash on october 1st so i can get an updated 5k time! tonight the plan is 18 miles (so i'll run 180 minutes, or 3 hours, to ensure that i'm getting the whole distance in since i don't have any loops measured out around here).
