This is the third day that Evan's been home from school. He's finally on the upswing, though. I took him to the Doctor yesterday (where we left after TWO HOURS. Blaaargh), and I found out he had the beginnings of Strep. So ye ole Doc prescribed some antibiotics, which I gave him last night, and this morning he woke up fever-free and claims that his throat doesn't hurt anymore. Hooray for fast-acting medicine! I'm so glad b/c he was just pitiful yesterday... shivering, blood-shot eyes, crying. Poor fellah. So tomorrow he can go back to school.
But today... today he's home with me and Lauren, and I figured I should probably do something to make today special before he returns to school and is away from us all day. Unfortunately, we're still stuck indoors b/c it's cold, and he's still a little sick.
The kids were bored with movies, so they started to play a game of "checkers." I have no idea what their rules were, but Evan ended up with 9 kings when he declared that he'd won. And when he was done, Lauren kept playing until she had all her kings. While they were playing, I grabbed a digital camera and started taking pictures of random things around the house: shoes, toys, pictures, medicine, laundry detergent. Then, I uploaded the pictures to
Picasa and
made them into a collage. I set the page format to 4x6. It ended up looking like this.
Then, I printed it off so that I could have 2 on a sheet, and I gave one to each kid. I let them choose a marker, and then I told them to go find all the stuff on the paper.
They. Loved. It.
I really didn't expect them to like it as much as they did, but they were so excited to look around the house for everything. I loved watching them explore and think about where the stuff could be. When they finished, they immediately asked for me to make another one. I told them we could do an outside one after it warms up a bit outside, so that's what we'll be doing next.
Sometimes being a mom is so fun and rewarding. I hope this is one of those happy memories that they'll remember when they're older. :)
The happy finishers. :D
