Haircuts By Jo

I've been looking at my girl's scraggly hair for a few weeks thinking that she needed a haircut. When her hair is brushed and clean, it looks great. But generally, my messy little gal's hair is full of tangles and sometimes food. The idea of going through the torture of the hair salon again was bothering me, though, along with the outrageous price of cutting a 2 year old's hair. Why does it cost about the same as cutting mine? Come on!

Yesterday, I decided that it was time. I finally had the van (Andrew's car has been undriveable, so he's been taking my van to work), so I thought we'd go. I got online to look at hairstyles for little girls. I wanted it short b/c of the previously mentioned tangly mess. As I was looking, I saw a link about cutting hair at home. The thought terrified me, but I read on. I found video after video of how to cut a child's hair at home. And then after watching this highly instructional video series, I decided that I could do this!

We went to town, and I bought thinning scissors. I already had some hair cutting scissors and combs at home. I waited until Andrew got home to be an extra set of eyes, and I plopped Lauren in the high chair in front of Dora with a sucker in her mouth. I was ready.

Here's what she looked like before I started:

We had just gone swimming, so it was definitely a mess.

Here's the back. Look how long it was!

And here's what it looked like after lots of not knowing what the heck I was doing.

And the back.

I like the flippy thing it's doing in this pic.

I gave her a bath and washed her hair, and then I was so anxious to see what it looked like dry, I blow dried her hair. I guess she got the full cut and style from me last night. Here's my sassy little girl after her stylist was through with her.

Don't you just love her model pose?

And the back

Look at all this hair I cut off. Crazy!

She did really, REALLY well during the whole thing. It was so much better than at the salon when she screamed the entire time. She just watched Dora, and when she started getting fussy, I gave her a sucker. She was great.

I know it's not a perfect haircut, but I thought I did a pretty good job for this being my first time ever to cut hair. Those videos really helped. Yay for internet!

After I finished and took a shower, we found her like this on the couch.

I guess being beautiful is hard work. :)
