I went to the library today to see if I could get the second book in the Kane Chronicles, The Throne of Fire. It said it was checked in, but I couldn't find it. I finally gave up b/c I didn't want to ask the library people, aka: librarians, for help. I decided to just look around at books and see if anything caught my eye.
I was in the juvenile fiction section b/c I tend to gravitate towards those kinds of stories. I guess I'm just a kid at heart. Also, I don't have to worry about sex and language. That's always a plus.
I came across a book called
The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. I was like, wait... what? Nicholas Flamel? The guy from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone? I thought that maybe it was just kind of a spin-off of that. I got it off the shelf and started looking at it, and guess what...
NICHOLAS FLAMEL WAS A REAL PERSON! *gasp*
I looked him up on google, aka: googled him, and found a
wikipedia page on Nicholas Flamel. Apparently, there are legends that he created the philosopher's stone which could turn things to gold and grant eternal life. He was a REAL PERSON! Who knew? Apparently, J.K. Rowling did which makes her book even more fascinating to me.
So I checked out The Alchemyst from the library. I've only read the first chapter, so I can't tell you how it is, but I think I'll like it. It's a series of books. I don't think the library has all of them. I only saw three there, and I read somewhere that there are seven... so we'll see how that goes.
I learned something new today! And as NBC says, "The More You Know...."
