I've mentioned on here before that I think
Evan is going to be really smart musically. I had an idea about how to help him in that, and I finally got off my booty and did something about it.
When I was a little kid, my brother got a
Chimalong. It's basically a little xylophone and each chime is numbered and colored. It came with a little book of music, and you could follow the colors or numbers and play songs. It was really simple to figure out, and it helped us learn how to read music. Sort of.
I used the same idea except with my old keyboard. I started out by choosing colors for all the white keys from Middle C to the next octave. I colored little squares with colored pencils, cut them out, and taped them on. If I was really awesome, i could've done all this stuff on the computer and made it look really pretty, but I'm not. Plus, it's fun to color.
Here's what the keyboard looked like when I was done:
I know. I'm so amazing. Ha. Right.
So the next part is what took forever. I went to
blanksheetmusic.net, made the staff as big as I possibly could, and printed it off. Then I figured out some simple songs on my keyboard and wrote the notes out... in different colors. It took a REALLY long time, but I was happy with it when I finished.
Here's what it looked like:
Evan finally woke up from his nap, and I showed him what I had done. He thought it was really neat! Of course, he's only 4, so he only has the attention span for a couple of measures, but he told me he liked it a lot! And after like 5 minutes, he told me that I needed to make a Mario paper. haha So I've got to figure something out with that. I should've taken pictures of him playing. Oh, well. I was busy showing him how.
Yesterday, they were playing on the keyboard, and I heard Lauren crying like she was hurt. Apparently, they got a little crazy, and it fell on top of her. Poor kid! Evan was more worried about his music sheets, though. The keyboard was still on top of her when I got upstairs, but Evan was like, "Oh, no! She's messing up my notes!" haha Lauren was okay, by the way. Just scared.
So, hopefully, Evan will show more interest in it. I remember playing with the Chimalong a lot, but I was older than he is, too. It was fun to create something. I should do that more often. :)
