Graduation!

May 21, 2006 13:09

Well, I did it! After sitting for what seemed like ages while 180+ girls' names were called; after turning the tassel from the left to the right; and after throwing rose petals in the air, I finally graduated. And yes, my hat did fall off, but luckily it waited until after we had walked out of the room where the ceremony was held and into the hall where all the teachers were before deciding to tumble off my head. =P

We had a little party at my house afterwards for family, though it was rather small because most of my aunts and uncles and cousins live out of town. 'S alright though, I like small parties. The presents I received were lovely and very thoughtful, but unnecessary. I didn't need all the stuff; I was just happy that my family was there to celebrate with me. But I did receive:
+ over $400
+ a miniature sewing kit, a watch [which I feel bad about because I never wear watches, and anyway, I have a cell phone so it doesn't really matter], and a laundry bag from my grandmother (practical stuff which I definitely need!)
+ a stationary set from one of my great-aunts
+ an iPod (!!!!!!) from another great-aunt
+ a book from my parents (well, technically, my mom)
+ Microsoft Office Student & Teacher edition from my aunt and uncle (they're the ones who also gave me the computer)

Friday was Honors Day and the Baccalaureate Mass. I got a couple of awards: the $100 from the Marketing Competition, the perfect attendance award (LOLZ), the Spanish award, and my IB Commonwealth certificate. The mass was in the evening and it was so pretty! Some of the faculty sang to us at the end; it was so cute. :D And then yesterday was, of course, graduation.

And as a "gift" to anyone graduating this year, I put together a little mix for y'all. Download it, bitchez! :p

o1. Aerosmith - Dream On
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if it's just for today

o2. Sonata Arctica - The Wind Beneath My Wings
Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

o3. Coldplay - Brothers and Sisters
Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
Break down, break down
Gotta spread love around
Gotta spread it around

o4. Miz - New Day
There's so many times I wondered what to do or what to say
And so many times I wish that there could be another way
'Cause it's a world in trouble that's lost it's harmony
And it's a world that's hurting without the beauty meant to be
I can't sit and wait for things to change

o5. Eve 6 - Here’s to the Night
Here's to the nights we felt alive
Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry
Here's to goodbye
Tomorrow's gonna come too soon

o6. Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

o7. Moby - We Are All Made of Stars
Growing in numbers
Growing in speed
Can't fight the future
Can't fight what I see

People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

o8. Rob Thomas - Streetcorner Symphony
We may never find our reason to shine
But here and now this is our time
And I may never find the meaning of life
But for this moment I am fine

o9. Vitamin C - Graduation (Friends Forever)
As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change, from whatever
We will still be, friends forever

10. Zero 7 - End Theme
[instrumental]

Notes:
o6. "Breakaway" was played at senior retreat, and although it wasn't the only song, it's the one that stuck with me the most from that experience.
o9. "Graduation (Friends Forever)" is THE graduation song, even if you don't necessarily like. Which means that I had to include it. =P
